The Jedi Padawan braid has become extremely iconic following its debut on Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, as it helps to identify the Padawans and represents the final tie a Jedi cuts before they ascend to the rank of Jedi Knight. While Swift is certainly far, far away from the Star Wars galaxy, she has evoked this tradition in a recent look of her own.
With photos of Swift’s red carpet look at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards spreading all throughout social media, kat points out one key detail of Swift’s look: a small braid peeking through the rest of her iconic blonde hair. The question of “whether or not she’s training as a jedi padawan” is proposed, along with plenty of replies either reacting to the question themselves or adding follow-ups about who her Jedi Master would be. One of these replies is from Ezra Bridger actor Eman Esfandi himself, who contributes an emoji of curious eyes perhaps hoping for such a future.

As the Jedi expert in this discussion, Esfandi doesn’t only lack an objection, but he also agrees with the idea of Swift becoming a Jedi Padawan. As a Jedi Knight himself, Esfandi – the mastermind behind the live-action version of Ezra Bridger – is one of the best to consult on this matter. The real question, however, shouldn’t be whether Swift is a Padawan or not; it should be whether she should ascend right to the rank of Jedi Master or not.
Swift has become a cultural icon in a way that’s similar to the Star Wars franchise itself, constantly breaking records and making history – as she did last evening by becoming the first artist to ever win four Album of the Year Grammy Awards. The love and enthusiasm that follows Swift is extremely reminiscent of Star Wars’ own cultural impact, with extremely loyal fanbases to match. It could be argued, then, that Swift’s level of power earns her a historical achievement within the Star Wars galaxy: being the first to ascend straight from Padawan to Master.
In a realistic sense, however, Swift’s recent interest in film could see her lending herself to the Star Wars galaxy one day. Seeing as Jedi Master Avar Kriss, a High Republic era Jedi with striking physical similarities to Swift, likens the Force to music and each person’s connection to it as instruments, then perhaps Star Wars viewers may one day even see Swift bring the Jedi Master to life. As one of the world’s most active stars, this isn’t entirely likely, but it still doesn’t change the fact that Swift would make for an incredible Star Wars Jedi Padawan – or Master.
