Taylor Swift’s exes attempt to take down Travis Kelce in a Scott Pilgrim vs. The World parody crossover video. This fall marks a big cinematic moment for both Swift and Scott Pilgrim. Last weekend marked the release of the infamous Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie, which is already a major box office hit. Arriving in the Scott Pilgrim universe comes the anime series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, which premieres on Netflix on November 17.

selzerfx has made a new crossover video that mashes up Swift with Scott Pilgrim.

This mashup takes the form of an Instagram short that positions Swift in the place of Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Scott Pilgrim character. The video opens with Swift saying the famous line “if we’re going to date, you may have to defeat my seven evil exes.” Drawing on the conceit of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Swift’s current beau, Kelce, takes the place of Michael Cera in the spoof video. The seven evil exes in question include stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Hiddleston. The video ultimately retitles the movie to Travis Kelce vs. the World.

Why This Taylor Swift-Scott Pilgrim Crossover Is Perfect

Though an unexpected mashup, Travis Kelce vs. The World is a clever way to draw upon a shared aspect of Swift’s oeuvre and the universe of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Quintessential to Swift’s lore is her famous ex-boyfriends, several of whom are included in this video. As in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Swift is thought to have a playfully vengeful attitude towards these exes as she writes copious songs thought to be inspired by said exes.

Swift’s famous breakup songs include “All To Well,” which is thought to be about Gyllenhaal, and appears in Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. Another notable exes-based inclusion in Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is the Harry Styles-based “I Knew You Were Trouble.” Other songs based on ex-boyfriends, including “Dear John” and “Superman,” which are both thought to be about John Mayer, did not make the cut within Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’s near three-hour runtime.

Swift’s exes are significantly more high-profile than those in the fictional world of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, making it all the more amusing to see their faces planted in the spoof video. The crossover parody begs the question whether Scott Pilgrim should actually throw a well-timed Swift exes joke into its content in some way. For a franchise featuring a battle of the bands, a music-related gaff is far from out of the question.
