Supernatural: One Quote From Each Main Character That Goes Against Their Personality

Supernatural: One Quote From Each Main Character That Goes Against Their Personality

The Winchesters will be airing on The CW this upcoming October, and will be a prequel focusing on the parents of Sam and Dean Winchester from the original series Supernatural.

Though John and Mary were characters in the original series, they were not the only characters with spinoff potential. This long-running series had several main characters that were reoccurring, allowing fans to get to know their personalities intimately. However, these prominent main characters also had some quotes that went against their personality.

“Why Do We Have To Sacrifice Everything?”

Dean Winchester

Supernatural: One Quote From Each Main Character That Goes Against Their Personality

One of Dean Winchester’s best quotes is when he says, “Saving people, hunting things, the family business,” which goes on to be one of the most iconic sayings in the series. It also perfectly sums up his dedication as a hunter.

In season 2, however, he expresses to his deceased father the extreme burden he feels has been put on him to be a hunter rather than have a normal life. This seems like a perfectly normal reaction for someone in his situation, but Dean is most often seen expressing his extreme dedication to being a hunter.

“I Will Find A Way, Okay?”

Sam Winchester

Both of the Winchesters come back from the dead multiple times throughout the series. However, Sam is the one that is most critical of the fact that they have defied death repeatedly.

Dean dies several times throughout the series (not including the “Mystery Spot” episode in which he dies over a hundred times), but he was never directly brought back by Sam’s own efforts. When Dean dies for the final time at the end of the series, Sam’s emotional state makes him act out of character and forget his opposition to reviving the dead.

“But I Guess [Lucifer] Was Always The Smart One.”

Castiel

Supernatural Carry on Sam Dean Chuck Castiel

As an angel, Castiel’s mannerisms are different from many of the other characters in the series. His quirky ways of speech often make his lines often feeling like a surprise.

However, he does have a few strong opinions throughout the course of the series. One of his most dominant traits is his belief that Lucifer is pure evil and has no redeeming qualities. When he says this, he’s attempting to upset the archangel, Michael. While he only says it to upset the angel, it still something oddly positive about the villain Lucifer.

“Let Her Kill Me Already.”

Bobby Singer

Bobby Singer looking serious on Supernatural

Bobby Singer has a lot of great quotes during his time on the show, making him one of the fan-favorite characters. He’s hilariously snarky, but also admirably regarded as Sam and Dean’s surrogate father-figure.

However, his badass demeanor is challenged when people in his town start coming back from the dead, including his deceased wife. When the brothers go to rescue him when his resurrected wife attempts to kill him, he breaks down and says this, believing he’s to blame for her demise. Though an understandable reaction, it contradicted his normally intelligent, fighter persona.

“I Don’t Hold Grudges.”

Crowley

Crowley holds out his hands while showing off power in Supernatural

When Crowley is trying to appease Lucifer, he says this line with the intention of protecting himself and allying with the powerful archangel. However, this is obviously a falsity despite his normal blatant honesty.

This goes along with Crowley’s determination to survive at all costs, but he tends to use more manipulative language than outright lying. Crowley proves he holds some of the most intense grudges, most prominent when he expresses he hates his witch mother for abandoning him over 300 years prior.

“I Should Have Died A Long Time Ago.”

Rowena In Hell

Rowena looks concerned in Supernatural.

This witch is someone who spent hundreds of years only doing what was best for her and ensuring her survival. However, Rowena’s weakness after losing her son Fergus (aka Crowley) transformed her into a more caring person.

Even after she started working with the good guys, she was quick to protect herself if danger arises until she sacrifices herself to save the world. When she becomes the Queen of Hell, she says this quote. Though funny at the moment, it goes against her one drive of self-preservation for most of her life.

“I Just Thought It Would Be Nice To Stay In.”

Mary Winchester

When Mary Winchester is brought back from the dead by Amara (The Darkness), she has a hard time adapting to the new generation and being around her grown sons who were very young when she died.

In this scene, she expresses the desire to have a quiet night in with her son and play some games. Though she’s focused on giving Dean some good experiences, this goes against her normal desire to be out and hunting. She was so uncomfortable with her new lifestyle that she had previously left her sons to go out on her own, which makes her desire to lounge a bit odd.

“Why Should We Stay Here On Earth?”

Lucifer

Lucifer with his hand up in Supernatural

Besides the two gods Chuck and Amara, Lucifer is the biggest bad on the show. He is obsessed with causing suffering and has a desire to take over the world for his own evil visions. However, his character gets interesting when his son, Jack, comes into the picture.

Desperate to get his son to join forces with him, he says this, pointing out that there are countless places and galaxies besides Earth. Considering he had been obsessed with taking over the Earth (or destroying it) and torturing humans for centuries, it was out of character for him to dismiss his life’s purpose so easily.

“He Deserved It.”

Jack

Jack looking confused in Supernatural.

One of the biggest Supernatural arguments among fans is whether Jack was a good inclusion in the show’s storyline. However, he proves to be one of the most complex and emotionally driven characters.

When Lucifer’s former vessel, Nick, tries to bring the archangel back from the dead, Jack violently kills the soulless human. Though Jack was currently struggling after losing his human soul, he had never previously shown such a disregard for something so heinous. This out-of-character line was his turning point, eventually leading to the shocking death of Mary Winchester.

“I Am So Sorry.”

John Winchester

There’s no doubt that John Winchester loved his children, proven when he sacrifices his own life for Dean’s. However, he wasn’t winning any parenting awards, often acting cold and demanding towards his sons.

This characterization from the beginning of the series is what made his reappearance in season 14 so shocking. After he momentarily comes back from Heaven, he proves his experience in the afterlife has drastically changed his personality. This is apparent when he apologizes to his son for giving him such a hard time when Sam decided to go to college many years prior.
