Superman’s New Power Makes His Forgotten ‘Super-Intelligence’ Even Cooler

Superman’s New Power Makes His Forgotten ‘Super-Intelligence’ Even Cooler

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Action Comics #1063!A new display of one of Superman’s oldest powers is showing off the true potential of the Man of Steel’s mind. The DC Universe has been taken over by one of Superman’s most bizarre villains, forcing Clark to journey into his own mind and show off one of the coolest abilities he’s been hiding all this time.

In a preview for Action Comics #1063 by Jason Aaron and John Timms, Superman is inside his own mind and flying through a representation of Metropolis. Guiding him through the experience is the Bizarro Joker, the only sane person to survive the Bizarro Wave.

Superman has checked his mental landscape, which is an exact replica of Earth but can’t find any lingering trace of Bizarro. Bizarro Joker is shocked to hear Superman has the entire planet committed to memory, but Superman likens it to the beat a police officer works, only one that’s 197 million square miles.

Superman Knows Every Square Inch of the Earth

Superman’s New Power Makes His Forgotten ‘Super-Intelligence’ Even Cooler

Superman’s nemesis Bizarro flew into a rage when he discovered Bizarro World was missing. In his fury, Bizarro attacked the Sorcerer’s World, which accidentally ended up with the villain gaining magic powers. Bizarro used his newfound arcane abilities on Earth and created a ‘Bizarro Wave’, which turned Metropolis’ population, and later everyone on Earth, into Bizarros. Knowing that only Bizarro can fix things and that he’s hiding inside Superman’s mind, Clark set out to find Bizarro. But to make sure he doesn’t lose himself, Superman decided to team up with the only stable person left on Earth: Joker.

Superman is often praised for his strength or abilities, but one thing that’s rarely brought up is Clark’s immense brainpower. Superman’s ‘Super-Intelligence’ is an overlooked but useful power that he’s used to master subjects in mere seconds. But as this preview shows, Clark also has the mental capacity to store every inch of the planet in his memory. That’s a lot of ground to cover, but for the Man of Tomorrow, it’s as simple as remembering several neighborhood blocks. Knowing he can remember literally every spot on Earth explains how Superman is able to respond to crime so quickly.

Sure, with Superman’s speed, he can be anywhere in practically an instant. But with a world filled with powerful threats like the DC Universe, it’s best Superman knows the most direct path to where people need him. Clark having every detail of Earth’s geography, no matter how small, is something that could mean the difference between life and death. While it’s hard to imagine having that much space committed to memory, for someone with Superman’s mental power, it’s no problem at all.

Action Comics #1063 is available on March 12th from DC Comics.
