Superman Finally Becomes a Blue Lantern in Fanart of His Ultimate Form

New Superman fanart turns Clark Kent into a Blue Lantern, in what would be the Man of Tomorrow’s ultimate form. A select group of heroes, the Blue Lantern Corps are an influential force in the galaxy, and fans have long speculated that Superman would be their perfect recruit, following in the long tradition of Justice League heroes getting short durations with different colored power rings.

In gorgeous art shared to Twitter, artist Mike Becker turns Superman into a Blue Lantern. Clark gets the iconic blue, white, and black of the Corps, as well as their symbol replacing his logo, although the iconic ‘S’ shield is present behind him as an energy construct. Superman’s cape gets a hood, echoing monk-like robes, and he is shown grinning at his new role. The art was created as a commission for @Isimmons_art by Becker, who is the creator between Young Offenders! and Empyrex Adventures, often sharing superhero redesigns (such as this new Fantastic Four team) to social media.

Superman Finally Joins the Blue Lantern Corps

In DC lore, the Blue Lanterns are allies of the Green Lantern Corps, drawing their power from their ability to inspire hope in others. Blue Lantern rings allow for energy constructs, flight, and rapid healing, but are most powerful when paired with rings from other corps – they can drain the rings of Yellow and Red Lanterns, and super-charge Green Lanterns beyond all pre-existing limits, as well as imbuing hope in those within a set radius. Fans have long speculated that Superman would be the ultimate Blue Lantern because he is the being in the galaxy most able to spread hope. Superman is known as a force for good across the cosmos, and even his iconic ‘S’ symbol means ‘Hope’ in his native Kryptonian. Healing, inspiring hope, and negating fear and rage would be ideal powers for Superman, but fans have yet to see him officially welcomed into the Corps. The closest they’ve got is an awesome piece of cover art from Ethan Van Sciver (below) that was ultimately rejected by DC, which shows the Justice League each brandishing a ring from a different Corps.

Superman Keeps Missing Out on His Blue Lantern Destiny

Superman keeps missing out on being welcomed into the Blue Lantern Corps, to the point where it’s an unusual omission. Batman has wielded four different colors of power ring, while Blackest Night saw Justice League heroes including the Atom, Wonder Woman, and Mera getting their own rings, with the Flash acting as the team’s ambassador to the Blue Lanterns. Given the longevity and interconnectivity of DC’s comics, it’s likely that sooner or later, fans will get to see a Blue Lantern Superman, and given the character’s relentless focus on inspiring host, it’s reasonable to assume he’d surpass all previous expectations of what the group can do. There’s still plenty of time for this to happen – the Blue Lantern Corps are relatively new as a group, and still only have a handful of members, as they take their time to only choose those truly perfect for the role, such as Saint Walker and Brother Warth.

Superman becoming a Blue Lantern would give him an upgrade the likes of which fans have never seen, but there’s sadly no sign it’s coming anytime soon. Thankfully, Mike Becker’s awesome fanart at least give fans a hint of what Blue Lantern Superman would look like.
