Supergirl Takes Charge of the Superman Family as the “House of Brainiac” Saga Heats Up

DC has revealed new details about the second month of the Superman Family’s “House of Brainiac” event, and it looks like Supergirl will be stepping up to take on one of her cousin’s greatest enemies. The “House of Brainiac” story begins in April as Superman teams up with Lobo to deal with the ever-encroaching Brainiac threat, especially as Brainiac harnesses a lost city of Czarnians. But as their team-up crumbles, Supergirl, Superboy, and Power Girl take on major threats of their own this May.

DC has released new details about this spring’s “House of Brainiac” saga, which begins in April’s Action Comics #1064 and continues throughout the Superman, Power Girl, and other tie-in titles. In May, the Superman Family’s problems only get worse as Brainiac, Brainiac Queen, and the lost Czarnian army — teased in a number of Superman titles throughout the Dawn of DC era — cause chaos around the DC Universe. Supergirl and Superboy Conner Kent take on Brainiac alone as Superman deals with the Czarnians in Action Comics #1065.

Supergirl’s Tragic Origin Is Even Darker Than Fans Realized

Supergirl already had one of the most heartbreaking origin stories, but a revelation regarding Kara’s inner fears makes her origin even worse.

Supergirl Takes on Brainiac as Superman Deals with Lobo in the Second Month of “House of Brainiac”

The “House of Brainiac” saga has been a long time coming, as Brainiac revealed in 2023 that he had preserved a lost Czarnian city — a planet once thought to be completely decimated by Lobo himself. Lobo, of course, is one of DC’s most dangerous mercenaries, a violent Czarnian who claims to have killed all his planetary bretheren. With Brainiac’s reveal (and a majorly powerful Czarnian army under his control), Lobo’s status as the last Czarnian has been completely shattered — with major consequences for Superman and the DCU at large.

Though “House of Brainiac” is a Superman story at its core, the new details for May’s three entries put Superman’s family at center stage, leading the charge against some of his most powerful enemies. Supergirl and Superboy are an impressively powerful duo, and it’s always exciting to see Supergirl step up as one of the true leaders of the Super-Family. Beyond these familiar faces, DC has also teased the involvement of some “unexpected allies” in Conner and Kara’s fight against Brainiac in Action Comics #1065, suggesting there are still twists and cameos to come.

How Will “House of Brainiac” Impact the DC Universe?

Beyond affecting the internal politics of the Superman Family, “House of Brainiac” also promises some major shake-ups for the DCU at large. The introduction of the mysterious new Brainiac Queen, is only the beginning, as this story is just one part of DC’s “Trinity of Evil,” a trio of major villains and stories that will shape the DC Universe in the months and years to come. “House of Brainiac” promises to reveal just some of the connections between the villainous forces guiding the DCU from the shadows.

Between the Brainiacs, Amanda Waller, and Batman’s foe Zur-En-Arrh, DC’s heroes and citizens are in major danger this year — and readers are therefore in for a major treat. Supergirl, Superman, and the entire Superman Family lead the charge this spring — but only time will tell which heroes will be left standing as the forces of evil gather against DC’s heroes. Stay tuned: “House of Brainiac” launches in April and continues throughout May; the second month begins with Action Comics #1065, available May 14th from DC Comics.
