Supergirl Settles How Advanced Krypton Actually Was (Compared to Earth)

Warning! Contains spoilers for Action Comics #1048!It looks like Supergirl has finally revealed how Earth stacks up to Krypton in its prime. The Woman of Steel keyed fans in on just how far behind the center of the DC Universe is to the once prosperous planet.

While Superman was rocketed to the Earth as an infant, his cousin, Kara Zor-El, was a teenager when the planet of Krypton exploded. Kal-El may have no memory of what Krypton was really like, but Kara remembers it all in vivid detail. She remembers what the planet’s society was like and how the culture operated. For Supergirl, coming to Earth was a rapid, tumultuous change that led to a lot of confusion and anger as she adjusted to the vastly different world. Though she has settled into a decent life on Earth, Supergirl still thinks back fondly on the planet she once knew and loved.

Being one of the few people who can accurately compare the two planets, Supergirl has apparently revealed how much more advanced Krypton was in comparison to Earth. In Action Comics #1048’s backup story “Red Moon” by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and David Lapham, the Phaelosian Thao-La is receiving a crash course in her powers by Supergirl. The two fly all across the world from the Fortress of Solitude all the way to Metropolis, with Kara gently reminding her friend that mastering the powers they share comes with time and practice. However, Thao-La wants to speed the process up, as she’s in fear of when the dreaded Warzoon warrior Chaytil will make his move. But Kara guides Thao-La around Metropolis, encouraging her to take in the world in order for her powers to acclimate. As they admire the city, Supergirl mentions that in twenty thousand years, the Earth will greatly resemble Krypton.

Earth Is Centuries Away From Becoming A New Krypton

Supergirl Settles How Advanced Krypton Actually Was (Compared to Earth)

It’s no shock that Krypton was at, a minimum, nearly two dozen millennia ahead of Earth. After all, the Kryptonians had things that Earth could only dream of, such as the crystaline technology that powers Clark’s own Fortress of Solitude. Of course, just because Krypton’s society was more advanced, that doesn’t mean they were flawless, as the arrogance of their ruling council sealed the planet’s ultimate fate. But knowing how far ahead Krypton was in comparison to Earth highlights the tragedy of its destruction.

Krypton’s explosion is the most awful part of both Superman and Supergirl’s origin. They had a home that, by all accounts, was one of the crown jewels of the DC Universe. But Krypton’s destruction, whether caused by Brainiac, Rogol Zaar, or just plain bad luck, removed one of the most advanced societies in the DCU. While the Earth has some impressive brainpower, even the Mister Terrifics of the world aren’t a substitute for twenty thousand years of progress. While the Earth may eventually meet the same standards as Krypton, it’s going to be quite a while according to Supergirl.
