Supergirl Actor Shows Off The Flash Movie’s Best Super Suit Without CGI In New Behind The Scenes Pics

Supergirl actress Sasha Calle shows off The Flash‘s best superhero suit without CGI in new behind-the-scenes photos. Calle makes her feature film debut in The Flash, already starting her movie career in grand style with a role as Kara Zor-El — Supergirl — alongside Ezra Miller’s Barry Allens and Michael Keaton’s Batman. Those were not the only heroes present in the movie, with Ben Affleck’s Batman and a few other surprise appearances making for a stellar lineup. Still, Calle’s Supergirl suit was The Flash‘s standout hero costume.

On Instagram, Calle shared behind-the-scenes images to celebrate The Flash‘s premiere, giving the best look yet at her Supergirl suit without CGI.

Calle’s casual photos of her Supergirl suit are evidence of how well-made it is, and serve as further proof of how bad a recent trend in superhero movies is.

Supergirl’s Suit Proves The Power Of Practical Effects

Calle’s suit looked amazing through most of The Flash, but there were times when the movie inevitably gave the suit a CGI makeup, which made Supergirl look less realistic and more video game-like. Still, it was nothing compared to the uncanny rubbery look that Miller’s The Flash suit had for large stretches of the film. The casual behind-the-scenes photos help the Supergirl suit really pop, showing a clear design and vibrant colors that were missed at times in the film.

Calle also shared videos of the practical effects behind her flight as Supergirl in The Flash, and the use of practical effects instead of just replacing her for CGI models in certain scenes could definitely be felt. There were moments where The Flash’s powers, namely in the final battle with the two Barry Allens, felt devoid of authenticity. That said, The Flash is not the first superhero movie to appeal to a predominance of VFX shots and CGI makeup on superhero suits.

Ryan Reynolds’ infamous Green Lantern movie is likely DC’s most well-known case of how a completely CGI super suit is not the answer. More recently, several projects have pivoted to the use of CGI over heroes’ suits or fully CGI costumes, which do not look as good as the real thing. 2019’s Avengers: Endgame was successful with its fully-CGI white team suits; however, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s own Spider-Man: No Way Home proved how practical suits are the best option, as Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s suits were a step above Tom Holland’s Spider-Man costume. The Flash got Supergirl’s suit mostly right, even if it looks better in Calle’s photos.
