Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer Reveals Peach, Rainbow Road & Tons More

The Mushroom Kingdom is under siege from Bowser in the latest The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer. The animated film acts as a reboot of the theatrical franchise surrounding Nintendo’s titular plumber, which was previously brought to life on screen in 1993’s critically panned Super Mario Bros. starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo. The Super Mario Bros. Movie will see Chris Pratt don the mantle of the eponymous princess-saving hero, a divisive decision criticized even further following the release of the first trailer.

Now, nearly two months after the first footage lit up the Internet for better and worse, Universal Pictures has revealed a new Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer. The video offers a closer look at the upcoming animated adventure, including featuring more of Pratt’s vocal work in the titular role, and the star-studded roster around him. Video Game Easter Eggs In Super Mario Bros. Trailer Explained

Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer Reveals Peach, Rainbow Road & Tons More

For longtime fans of the Nintendo franchise, the Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer proves to be an absolute treasure trove of video game Easter eggs to discover. The locations themselves are almost entirely pulled from the games themselves, bringing audiences back to the Mushroom Kingdom in exciting fashion, including the iconic Rainbow Road track from the Mario Kart titles and a training stage pulled right out of the original Super Mario Bros. games. The coliseum Mario and Donkey Kong fight in the beginning of the Super Mario Bros. movie trailer also features a nod to the original Donkey Kong game, in which both characters were introduced, as the two characters battle on platforms similar to the arcade title.

In addition to locations, the new Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer features plenty of exciting looks at the various power-ups from the Nintendo games making their way into the film. Mario can be seen donning his iconic Raccoon Suit and soaring through the skies, while Peach is seen possessing fire-wielding abilities after touching a fire flower in a field full of them. The trailer also teases video game characters not previously revealed to be in the film, namely a group of Yoshis running through an open field.

Mario’s Faithfulness To The Games Can Fix Its Casting Mistakes

In spite of the various Easter eggs featured throughout, The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer still highlights a key hurdle the film has going against it in the form of Pratt’s vocal work in the titular role, a concern fans of the games have raised since his casting was announced. Though the new trailer doesn’t go so far as to reassure his voice is better than some are giving credit for, the inclusion of so many Easter eggs and pointing towards the film remaining very faithful to the video games could help propel the movie past this casting mistake to be an entertaining adventures for those who grew up with the Nintendo plumber. Only time will tell when The Super Mario Bros. Movie hits theaters on April 7.
