Super Mario Bros. Movie Cameo Set Up The Perfect Bowser Replacement For Super Mario 2

Super Mario Bros. Movie Cameo Set Up The Perfect Bowser Replacement For Super Mario 2

The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 must find a suitable villain to follow Bowser, and one cameo from the original film sets up his perfect replacement. Bowser is arguably the most well-known villain from the Super Mario Bros. games, so it’s no surprise that 2023’s movie adaptation uses him as its Big Bad. After Bowser attempts to marry Peach and squash the resistance formed by her allies, he’s defeated in a final showdown with the princess, Mario, and Luigi. Peach shrinks him using a blue mushroom, then puts him in a tiny cage with a small piano.

The Super Marios Bros. Movie 2 isn’t confirmed just yet, but it seems inevitable after the first movie’s $1 billion success. While a sequel could potentially bring Bowser back into the fold, it’s more likely the next film will embrace a new villain to avoid feeling repetitive or stale. This creates a villain problem for The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2, as Bowser has more recognition than other antagonists from the games. However, there is one villain who would make a solid Bowser replacement, and the first movie has already set the stage for his entrance.

King Boo’s Super Mario Bros Movie Cameo Sets Him Up As Bowser’s Villain Replacement In The Sequel

While The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 will have a hard time finding a villain as iconic as Bowser, King Boo can come close — and he already has the means to show up in a sequel. In one of The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s many Easter eggs and cameos, King Boo appears during Bowser’s wedding. The film only offers a brief glimpse of the villain, but it’s enough to confirm that he exists in the adaptation’s world.

King Boo appears in numerous Mario games Luigi’s Mansion, Mario Kart, Super Princess Peach, and a few Mario Party sequels, to name a few. Given his recurring roles, even casual fans are likely to recognize him in a movie adaptation. And as King Boo is the leader of an entire species of Boos, using him as a villain would allow the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel to explore a new group and the Paranormal Dimension from the games.

King Boo Being The Super Mario Bros Movie 2’s Villain Can Help Fix The Original’s Luigi Issues

King Boo offers a compelling replacement for Bowser due to his own antics as a villain, but he’d also give The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 the opportunity to fix the original film’s Luigi complaints. The 2023 film doesn’t give Luigi enough screen time, and viewers are eager to see more of Mario’s brother. Given that King Boo is the main villain of Luigi’s Mansion, his appearance as a villain would allow a sequel to center on Luigi’s story. That would help The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 succeed without Bowser, and it would ensure that the next movie doesn’t feel like a carbon copy of the first.
