Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 Finally Confirmed (& It Already Has A Release Date)

Following its record-breaking run at the box office in 2023, The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 is finally moving forward.

During the latest Mario Day event held by Nintendo, the studio announced they would be reteaming with Universal and Illumination to develop a new Super Mario Bros. movie. The announcement was made by Nintendo exec Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination CEO/founder Chris Meledandri, with the duo indicating that the movie is set to expand the world of the original hit and hit theaters on April 3, 2026 in the U.S. and some international territories, with animation “beginning soon” and prior directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic returning alongside writer Matthew Fogel.
