Suicide Squad International Trailer: We’re the Bad Guys

Suicide Squad International Trailer: We’re the Bad Guys

After more than a year of waiting for its release, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad finally premieres worldwide in a little under a month. For those not in the know, the new DC Extended Universe film will follow a team of imprisoned supervillains, who are recruited by a secret government agency to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for a little leniency. While the group, led by the ruthless Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), are essentially playing the hero’s part, there’s no mistaking that they’re still the bad guys.

Man of Steel and this year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice really established the gritty and no nonsense tone of the DC Extended Universe, but Suicide Squad plans to take it to another level. Although the film will be rated PG-13 (but Ayer hopes to make an R-rated sequel), there’ll still be enough violence, language and suggestive content to give it the edge and attitude it needs. Then maybe once the studio sees the property is profitable, the big guns can come out next time.

For now, fans will have to make due with these anti-heroes that are just so good at being bad (while of course trying to be good). But the new Suicide Squad international trailer above takes on a more playful vibe, as it introduces the crazy hijinks of its main characters. Waller recruits ‘some very bad people’ who ‘can do some good,’ including Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Joker (Jared Leto), Diablo (Jay Hernandez) and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). There’s no telling what they’ll get up to in the film.

For those following the film’s trailers obsessively for more footage, this new international trailer doesn’t really have anything new, beyond the music and aa few new shots and angles. Yet in an age when have teasers of trailers and even teasers of teasers, it seems marketing is at least doing their best in keeping this film fresh and new going into the last few weeks before its release. Anticipation for Suicide Squad is still high, and Warner Bros is hoping to keep it that way.

Which is a good plan, too, because judging by this new trailer, Suicide Squad could very well be DC’s Guardians of the Galaxy, since it’s still tied to the same narrative of the previous movies but also goes off the beaten path a little. It’s a ragbag team of lively delinquents that will bring on the laughs while also bringing on the fun. Guardians was the highest-grossing superhero film of 2014, but Suicide Squad‘s characters and cast are even more well-known. All in all, it can only mean good things are coming.
