Suicide Squad Footage Shows Off John Cena’s Peacemaker & More

New footage from James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad spotlights John Cena’s Peacemaker and other members of the band of anti-heroes and villains. Following the disappointing response to 2016’s Suicide Squad, the hope is that Gunn can revitalize the property for the DCEU. The Suicide Squad is somewhere between a sequel and a reboot, with some characters from the 2016 film returning among a slew of new faces. With a new mission bringing them together, Gunn has teased an R-rated spectacle with quite the body count.

The Suicide Squad will be one of the many Warner Bros. movies being released both in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day. Fans have waited months to get a proper look at the film, but so far they’ve only been treated to a behind the scenes featurette and some snippets from various HBO Max teasers. Gunn recently commented on the status of the first Suicide Squad trailer, asking fans to be patient as he finishes working on the film. And though the wait continues for a full clip, more footage from The Suicide Squad has been revealed.

HBO Max has unveiled another trailer touting their 2021 releases, and it gives audiences a new peek at The Suicide Squad. In addition to various action shots, such as one of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and others running through a crumbling building, some actual dialogue between Bloodsport (Idris Elba) and Peacemaker starts at 1:17. With one line alone, fans get a good idea of who Peacemaker is as a person. Check it out down below.

“No one likes a show-off,” Bloodsport tells Peacemaker. “Unless what they’re showing off is dope as f-,” Peacemaker responds, and the cut-off expletive certainly backs up The Suicide Squad‘s R-rating. DC films have recently begun to transition into more R-rated efforts with Joker and Birds of Prey. Already, The Suicide Squad seems like it will fit into the growing world of adult-centered superhero films well. Though the above footage isn’t nearly the same as a full trailer, it does hint at The Suicide Squad‘s overall tone, as well as the relationship between some of the characters. Bloodsport and Peacemaker seem to have different approaches to their mission, and that might cause some friction.

The brief focus on Peacemaker reminds audiences that he will be the center of his own HBO Max series. Gunn and Cena are collaborating on Peacemaker, which kicked off filming recently and may or may not be taking place before The Suicide Squad. Cena’s murderous, peace-loving character has already been singled out as an MVP from The Suicide Squad‘s stacked cast, so it’s fun to get a new glimpse of him. Until the trailer finally emerges, any bit of footage is exciting.
