Suicide Squad Director Confirms What HE Wanted Enchantress To Look Like

Suicide Squad director David Ayer confirms what he wanted Enchantress (Cara Delevigne) to look like. In recent weeks, Ayer has been incredibly open about how his original plans for Suicide Squad deviated from what ended up in the final version. It has become clear that Warner Bros. greatly interfered in the production and changed a lot, such as the film’s tone. Now, Ayer has begun encouraging fans to fight for the so-called “Ayer Cut” of Suicide Squad. Ayer and fans have been inspired by the success of the Snyder Cut campaign, which led to a resurgence in support for Ayer’s cut of his DC film.

Much of the things Warner Bros. altered in Ayer’s Suicide Squad pertains to its many characters. Several arcs were cut down, including Enchantress’. In Suicide Squad, Enchantress is the main villain and the reason the titular squad gets brought together. This powerful being possesses archaeologist June Moone and seeks to destroy the world. However, audiences were less than pleased with her, as her motivations were weak and the CGI that made up much of her appearance was poorly designed. Ayer has admitted that both Enchantress and June were “more solidly arced out in my cut.”

Zeroing in on Enchantress’ look for a moment, Ayer just revealed what he had initially envisioned for her. A fan shared an older piece of concept art for Enchantress on social media, and Ayer responded by saying “This is where I wanted to take her look.” The art is a far cry from how the villain looked in the film, taking on a brilliant golden outfit. You can see it, as well as Ayer’s response, in the space below.

The theatrical cut of Suicide Squad was knocked by fans and critics for several reasons, and one of them was Enchantress’ weakness as a villain. It isn’t quite clear how her role would’ve changed in Ayer’s original Suicide Squad, though he did reveal that the film originally opened with the moment June first discovered Enchantress. That might’ve grounded June’s struggle in Suicide Squad a bit more and, depending on how it played out, could have provided a deeper backstory for Enchantress.

It’s clear Ayer’s Suicide Squad would be vastly different than what fans saw in theaters in 2016, but there’s still a chance they will never get to see this alternate version. Warner Bros. has yet to officially comment on whether they will release Ayer’s Suicide Squad like they are with the Snyder Cut. Granted, this doesn’t mean it won’t ever happen, but it does indicate the Ayer Cut has a ways to go before it can be released into the world. Only time will tell if it reaches that point.
