Sugar Rush Christmas: Meet Judge Adriano Zumbo, The Australian Willy Wonka

The popular holiday baking competition Sugar Rush Christmas is back for season two, and head judge Adriano Zumbo returns to share his wisdom as the Australian confection master. Sugar Rush Christmas is based on the top-rated Netflix competition series called Sugar Rush. The primary difference between the spin-off and the original is that the spin-off has a theme, which adds that extra pinch of magic! Adriano Zumbo is no stranger to judging, as he acts as head judge on Sugar Rush and had his own long-form competition series.

Sugar Rush Christmas has a Christmas, as the name suggests. It’s a baking competition with four teams competing. The aim is to bake rapidly through a trio rounds. In this competition, time management is all-important. The first round features teams who are striving to make it to round two in a set amount of time. A team is eliminated during every round. The second round is about saving time that’s later added to the third round. At the conclusion of round three, the winning team is revealed. That team gets ten thousand bucks.

Returning this season is head judge Adriano Zumbo. Zumbo is one of Australia’s most famous pastry chefs and has been coined their “Willy Wonka”. He is known for impeccable and creative desserts that push the boundaries. Before joining Sugar Rush, Zumbo had his own long-form reality competition series called Zumbo’s Just Desserts, in which contestants were tasked with creating increasingly difficult and creative confections. After the series ended, Zumbo continued to Sugar Rush, where he has been the head judge for three seasons and two Sugar Rush Christmas spin-offs. Zumbo is joined by Candace Nelson. She is the creator and founder of the world’s first cupcake-only bakery, Sprinkles. Sprinkles locations are found in several states, and Candace is a veritable legend in her own right. Adriano Zumbo discovered his own love of treats when he used to enjoy candy and desserts that he found in his parent’s shop. Now, he is sure to hold the competitors to high standards, as he does in every competition. However, the way he delivers criticism is always kind. He offers advice with the goal of helping contestants to create better desserts. Zumbo is a master of confection who is the ideal host for the show.

What’s more, Zumbo expects fantastical desserts full of whimsy and wonder, and Sugar Rush Christmas season 2 teams may give him exactly what he wants.
