Succession’s Next Luxury Locale & New Season 4 Story Details Revealed

Succession’s Next Luxury Locale & New Season 4 Story Details Revealed

As the Waystar-GoJo merger moves forward in Succession, season 4 will be heading to Norway. HBO’s drama was nominated for a record-breaking 25 statues at this past Primetime Emmy Awards, once again winning the coveted award for Outstanding Drama Series, while creator Jesse Armstrong won again for writing and Tom Wambsgans actor Matthew Macfayden took home his first Emmy for Supporting Actor. Succession season 4 is currently filming and is expected to air sometime next year, possibly in early 2023.

Succession season 4 will pick up following season 3’s momentous cliffhanger which saw Waystar RoyCo founder Logan Roy (Brian Cox) sell the family company to Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård), much to the dismay of his three adult children – Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Shiv (Sarah Snook). Introduced in Succession season 3, Lukas is the Norwegian CEO of the streaming giant known as GoJo who makes multiple moves to put his company in a position to acquire Waystar. Now, it appears Skarsgård’s slick tech mogul will play a major role in Succession season 4.

Per a Variety exclusive, Succession season 4 will find Matsson coaxing the Roy family out to visit the Norwegian mountains. The details were revealed by producer Scott Ferguson, who is currently overseeing the Norway shoot with several stars, including Skarsgård, Snook, and Nicholas Braun (who plays Logan’s bumbling yet opportunistic grandnephew Greg Hirsch). Ferguson says Succession season 4 is shooting across a number of well-known locations in Norway, such as Atlantic Ocean Road (where No Time to Die also filmed) and the luxury Juvet Landscape Hotel (as seen in Ex Machina).

Lukas Matsson’s Succession Season 4 Role Explained

Succession’s Next Luxury Locale & New Season 4 Story Details Revealed

Previously thought to be a guest appearance similar to Adrien Brody’s, it became clear throughout the latter half of Succession season 3 that Skarsgård’s Lukas Matsson was being set up for a major recurring role to come. Now, season 4 will explore a bit more of Matsson’s world as his acquisition of Waystar progresses. This means as the future of the Roy children and their chances of succession hangs in the balance, they will be out of their comfort zone in the GoJo founder’s own stomping ground.

As for Succession season 4’s new location, Norway is just the next luxury locale the show will visit. Shiv and Tom’s wedding in season 1 was at an English castle, the Roy family hunting retreat in season 2 was held in Hungary, and most recently, Caroline’s wedding in season 3 took place in Tuscany. It’s still relatively early in the production process for Succession season 4, though these new story and location details indicate HBO’s drama is well on its way to another critically acclaimed season.
