Strange New Worlds Musical BTS Video Celebrates End Of Actor’s Strike

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds celebrates the end of the actors’ strike with a “joyous” behind-the-scenes video of the first-ever Star Trek musical episode, “Subspace Rhapsody.” After 118 days, the SAG-AFTRA strike ended at midnight on Thursday, November 9, following reaching a tentative “deal of extraordinary scope… valued at over one billion dollars.” Once SAG-AFTRA’s membership ratifies the deal, it effectively means that actors can return to work on movies and TV projects, and that certainly includes the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

On Twitter/X, Strange New Worlds writer-producer Bill Wolkoff (@flying_lobster), who co-wrote the first-ever Star Trek musical episode, shared a BTS video of the last number filmed for “Subspace Rhapsody.” The video shows actors Jess Bush (Nurse Christine Chapel), Celia Rose Gooding (Ensign Nyota Uhura), and Dan Jeannotte (Lt. Sam Kirk) having a blast singing “We Are One,” while others like Ethan Peck (Lt. Spock) and director Dermott Downs watch from the background. Wolkoff also joins in the fun. Check out the video below:

“We Are One” was the closing song of the Strange New Worlds musical, and it’s obvious the cast had a great time letting loose. It’s also fascinating to see the background actors and stunt people enjoying the impromptu performance in the USS Enterprise’s Port Galley bar set.

When Will Strange New Worlds Season 3 Release Now That Actors’ Strike Is Over?

Strange New Worlds season 2 left off with a big cliffhanger.

The end of the SAG-AFTRA strike means Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3’s production can commence, although it won’t happen right away. Most of season 3’s scripts have been written, and work resumed when the Writer’s Guild of America strike was settled in late September. Strange New Worlds season 3’s production was originally meant to start in early May, but with the holidays coming up, which tends to slow down Hollywood movie and TV production, Strange New Worlds season 3’s production with the actors back in Toronto to film may not fully get underway until early 2024.

Strange New Worlds season 2 ended with a nail-biting cliffhanger. Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) was placed in a no-win scenario where Starfleet ordered him to retreat while members of the USS Enterprise’s crew have been kidnapped by the Gorn. The life of Captain Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano) is also in jeopardy after she was infected by the Gorn. Although the wait for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 will be longer, it will happen, and reliving the joy of the musical episode is a great way to pass the time to make the wait not seem as long.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is available to stream on Paramount+.
