Players in Stranded Deep have many different survival methods at their disposal. Early in the game players will spend most of their time hunting and finding ways to collect fresh drinking water. This means that it is pretty hard to find time to build more complicated objects like rafts or better shelters.
In order to have more free time in Stranded Deep, players will need to create objects that collect survival materials for them. There are ways to collect water and even catch birds, but one object that players will want to craft as early as possible is the fish trap. This trap can be placed in water to trap fish that swim inside, which means that players won’t have to go swimming out in the dangerous waters with a spear. This guide will show players how to craft the fish trap and how to use it.
Stranded Deep: Crafting the Fish Trap
Crafting the fishing trap is relatively simple, as long as players own the recipe already. If it does not show up in the crafting menu, then players should continue building other items and collecting materials until they level up enough to unlock it. Players will only need 3 types of materials to make a fish trap:
Lashing (2x)- Lashings can be found on shipwrecks or players can collect fibrous leaves in order to craft them.
Rock (2x)- Players can find these all over the beach or by mining bigger rocks.
Stick (6x)- Sticks will be found lying on the beach or players can cut down trees.
Once players have tracked down all of the materials they will just need to go into the crafting menu and select the hunting tab. The fish trap will be under this tab, and if players have all the materials it will be highlighted.
Stranded Deep: Placing the Fish Trap
Once a fish trap is ready players can use the grab button to drag the trap wherever they wish. It will need to be placed underwater before it is set and able to catch fish. The fish trap is best used for catching bigger fish because they will give players more meat to eat. This means that the trap should be dragged out as far from shore as possible to increase the chances of catching something big like a cod.
Once players drag the trap to the appropriate location, all they have to do is press the interact button ( E on PC/Square on PS4/X on Xbox) to set it up. The trap used to require bait, but all players have to do now is set it up and leave it alone until it catches something. Players should craft a few traps to ensure that they always have access to plenty of food while trying to survive. The last thing players want to worry about while fighting off a few hungry sharks is where their next meal is coming from.
