Steven Spielberg’s Upcoming Movie With Bradley Cooper Gets A Promising Update

Steven Spielberg’s Upcoming Movie With Bradley Cooper Gets A Promising Update

Steven Spielberg’s upcoming Bullitt movie receives a promising update from his producing partner Kristie Macosko Krieger. Released in 1968, the neo-noir film starred Steve McQueen as the titular nonconformist, no-nonsense San Francisco cop on the hunt for the mob kingpin who killed a witness under his protection. In November 2022, it was reported that Spielberg and writer Josh Singer were developing a new original take on Bullitt with Cooper cast as the classic character. However, the project was delayed by the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Now, in a new interview with GamesRadar+, Krieger provided a promising update on Steven Spielberg and Bradley Cooper’s Bullitt movie. The producer says Spielberg and Singer are currently working on the story and promises “it will be a wildly entertaining film.” Read her full update below:

I’m producing it. Steven [Spielberg] and Josh Singer, who is writing the script, they are working on the story. I hope we have a script soon as the writers’ strike put us behind a bit. But they are working on it – I couldn’t tell you if it’s the next movie we are making as I don’t know at this point. I think that it will be a wildly entertaining film.

Steven Spielberg’s Bullitt Movie Marks A Big Creative Reunion

Steven Spielberg’s Upcoming Movie With Bradley Cooper Gets A Promising Update

If Spielberg’s Bullitt movie progresses as planned, the project will mark a big creative reunion on a few different fronts. First off, it will finally see Spielberg direct Cooper after years of attempts. Spielberg came close to directing Cooper in American Sniper, though the director ultimately departed the project and was replaced by Clint Eastwood. Maestro, which releases December 20 on Netflix, was also almost directed by Spielberg, but after he was blown away by Cooper’s directorial debut, A Star is Born, he decided to step aside and let him direct it. Spielberg remained a producer on Maestro alongside Krieger.

Singer, who is penning the script for the Bullitt movie, also co-wrote Maestro alongside Cooper. With the Bullitt movie making progress, it could mark a big creative reunion between Spielberg, Cooper, Krieger, and Singer after Maestro. It should certainly help that Maestro reviews have been largely positive, resulting in four Golden Globe nominations and probably a few Oscar nominations to come as well. By releasing during the holiday season on Netflix, Maestro should also be seen by the streaming service’s large subscriber base. With any luck, Spielberg and Cooper’s Bullitt movie should be equally successful.
