Static: Season Two Confirmed To Begin In Summer

Warning! Spoilers for Static: Season One #6

As Static: Season One comes to an end, it has been confirmed that the series will continue with Season Two this summer. Writer Vita Ayala and artist Nikolas Draper-Ivey kickstarted Milestone’s return to comics with the title, reimagining the story of Virgil Hawkins AKA Static for a modern audience.

When it was announced that Milestone Media was coming back to DC Comics after a long hiatus with three series rebooting the Dakotaverse, fans had high expectations. Static: Season One set the stage for the new titles, premiering ahead of both Hardware and Icon and Rocket. However, each series’ first six issues have been branded as the series’ first seasons, making the Dakotaverse’s future seem uncertain. With the recently released Static: Season One #6 closing out Virgil Hawkins’ origin story as Static, there has been an update regarding the series’ future.

While Static takes to the skies in his new costume in the issue’s last panel, it’s revealed that the series will continue with Static: Season Two this summer. Based on social media posts, it seems that both Ayala and Draper-Ivey will be returning as the creative duo to continue the story they started together. Now that Virgil has officially become the superhero teased at the start of the first season, there is a lot of potential for where the series might go next.

The finale also featured a tease of what’s to come, including the horrifying shadow-like villain Ebon, who also references his brother. Fans of the animated series Static Shock might recall that Ebon’s brother is a rapper named Adam Evans, who becomes the meta-human villain-turned-hero, Rubberband Man. In the last pages of the issue, Virgil’s collective support group of family and friends convene at the Hawkins’ house, unifying as a team that will play an important part in Static’s heroics going forward. If Rubberband Man is introduced in the next season, he could be joining their alliance.

On June 7, Static: Season One will be collected in a trade paperback for fans to catch up before Season Two begins later this summer. It’s possible that before the series continues, Static will return for Milestones in History, which will release the following week on June 14. The one-shot was originally intended for Black History Month, highlighting important black figures throughout history through the framing of Dakotaverse superheroes. However, the special issue’s cover appears to incorporate Static’s prototype suit, hinting that it could be set before the Season One finale.
