Stargirl Sets Up A New Superhero To Join The JSA In Season 2

Stargirl sets up a new superhero to join the Justice Society of America in season 2. The series is seemingly adding to its roster of superheroes this season. In Stargirl season 2’s second episode, Jennie, the daughter of Green Lantern Alan Scott, began training using her father’s ring, which was passed down to her. In addition to Jennie becoming a JSA member eventually, the superhero series teased yet another potential recruit.

When Jennie left her foster home in Wisconsin, she only had two things with her: the Green Lantern ring and a red toy car marked with her brother Todd’s name on the bottom. While Todd’s whereabouts and what happened to him remain a mystery for now, it’s possible he will appear later on down the line in Stargirl season 2. After all, Jennie wouldn’t have referenced him at all if he wasn’t going to show up and play a role at some point soon. Jennie left Blue Valley for the time being, but she will likely return with her brother in tow to formally join the JSA where they can hone their powers and aid Stargirl and her friends with fighting Eclipso.

In the comics, Todd (who grew up as Todd Rice) is the superhero Obsidian and the twin brother of Jennie (aka, Jade). Like Jennie, Todd also grew up in a foster home in Wisconsin, albeit an abusive one. The siblings didn’t know of the others’ existence until they were teenagers, but upon meeting each other decided to become superheroes like their father before them. Unlike Jade, however, Obsidian doesn’t use the Green Lantern ring, but he does have superpowers despite this. Todd is able to merge his physical form with that of his shadow, which gives him super strength, the power of flight and intangibility. He can also use energy to create constructs like Green Lantern can do with his ring.

The brief mention of Todd in Stargirl season 2’s second episode suggests he will likely play a pivotal role on the show. The series has been all about the new JSA members, building up their powers and relationships with each other, and working as a team to fight villains. While the Injustice Society of America is currently in tatters after the JSA defeated them in season 1, there are still other threats looming in Blue Valley, including the arrival of Eclipso, the Shade (a former ISA member), and Cindy Burman forming a new villain team with Injustice Unlimited. The JSA could use all the help they can get defeating these bad guys and it’s possible Obsidian will be a crucial element in the fight to bring them down.

There is still a lot left to learn about Todd and Jennie and it’s likely the latter will go in search for her brother before returning to Blue Valley. Whatever happens and whenever Obsidian is slated to arrive, it’s clear Stargirl is setting up a big debut for him and it makes sense that both he and his sister will pick up where their father left off. Being a superhero is a big responsibility and, as revealed with Jennie and the other JSA members, there will be a learning curve. However, Todd will surely be up to the task.
