Starfield Now Has The One Feature Everyone Wanted At Launch

While it can be lonely to explore the universe in Starfield, a new mod should make filling up the silence of space a little easier. Upon the release of Bethesda’s massive sci-fi RPG, many players were excited to climb into their starships and blast off into space, charting whatever course they wished. Unfortunately, it soon became clear that those trips would be punctuated by plenty of dead air but fortunately for players willing to go the extra mile, a healthy dose of music can now be played to make those trips more fun.

Per a post by argent25 on Nexus Mods, Starfield Radio Shows” mods serves as an expansion for the “Starfield Galactic Radio” add-on, bringing with it a handful of additional tunes and adding even more variety to the available mix of music. With several personalities serving as hosts, these extra stations include a variety of new genres, including J-Pop, Synthwave, and old-school Hawaiin music. Collectively, the mod adds just over four hours of extra audio content to Starfield meaning players shouldn’t grow bored of hearing the curated tracks any time soon.

Starfield’s Lack Of Radio Disappointed Fans

While Starfield did feature some form of radio broadcast systems for players exploring towns and cities, the game’s community has openly expressed its disappointment that music isn’t available when inside ships. Given that Bethesda’s Fallout series featured an iconic assortment of radio stations that could be listened to while walking around The Wasteland, many expected something similar in the studio’s latest release. When the game launched, modders were quick to address the issue by releasing an add-on that included several radio stations that could be tuned into and out of at any point in the game.

“An Instant Classic”: Starfield Review

Starfield has plenty of captivating tales and dynamic mechanics that make it an epic science fiction adventure – and an instant classic.

The lack of in-ship radio stations isn’t the only thing that annoyed Starfield players at launch. Despite the game’s gigantic size and the amount on offer, the community questioned why so many fundamental quality-of-life features had been left out of the shipped version. Many problems raised by players have been present in previous Bethesda RPGs, prompting intrepid Constellation members to question why the studio didn’t learn from previous mistakes to provide the most polished experience polish, especially given how long the project was in development.

What Do Starfield Fans Want For The Game?

As Bethesda pushes out a new patch that adds poses for characters in Photo Mode and removes the Digipick cost for the Undo action while playing the security minigame, the community is questioning the studio’s priorities. Ever since Starfield‘s launch, an ongoing thread over on the game’s Reddit has served as a means of collection for every requested fix and additional feature that players want to see added to the game in subsequent updates. At the time of writing, most of the request have yet to be met.

Many of the highlighted quality-of-life features include changes to Starfield‘s clunky UI such as the addition of a list of visited planets to prevent confusion, as well as the ability to sort one’s inventory into important items and junk to better categorize everything. One of the most demanded improvements relates to the galaxy map which continues to draw ire for constantly snapping the reticle back to the currently selected planet, while even more players want some kind of compendium to keep track of discovered species, which would be thematically consistent with the game’s Constellation faction.

Modders Come To Starfield’s Rescue

In the months following Starfield‘s launch, Bethesda promised that it was working on implementing mod support into the game as a means for the community to tweak and fiddle with the core experience. Despite such a feature not being present, much to the chagrin of the community, modders have still managed to create some exceptional quality-of-life improvements that can dramatically elevate the game. Aside from the aforementioned “Starfield Radio Shows,” fans can also install mods that increase the speed at which doors open, tidy up the inventory menu, and skip the brief animation that plays when beginning a Digilock minigame.

Arguably the most frustrating problem fixed by modders is the lack of a minimap that actually provides some insight into the location being explored. Bethesda has stated that an official update will fix this issue but it’s been months since this promise was made and there’s still no word on when it will be released. As the community continues to wait for information, Starfield‘s modders will continue to create all kinds of fantastic mods to make the game more enjoyable by today’s standards.

What Lies Ahead for Starfield?

Despite its release in late 2023, Bethesda has remained relatively quiet on what fans can expect in Starfield‘s future. Aside from the announcement that a paid expansion, titled Shattered Space, would arrive after the base game’s release, smaller content updates have been few and far between. The most recent patch largely served as a hotfix to eliminate hundreds of bugs while also adding some minor new features like the ability to pose in Photo Mode.

As for when Starfield‘s Shattered Space DLC is set to arrive, speculation continues to run rampant. Bethesda has stated that it will launch the DLC in 2024 and has yet to provide a specific window for its release, but given that April is steadily approaching it’s fair to say that it won’t be in the first quarter. Players should look out for more news on the state of the game in the coming weeks.
