Starfield Is In the Milky Way Galaxy 300 Years In the Future

Bethesda Softworks’ newest Starfield video provides an overview of the setting, which will allow players to explore a pocket of the Milky Way Galaxy in the far-flung future. Revealed during Bethesda’s E3 2018 showcase, Starfield marks the first new IP from Bethesda Game Studios in about a quarter of a century. The project seems rather ambitious, too, based on the little shown in the Starfield E3 2021 teaser trailer.

After years of silence, the title that Executive Producer Todd Howard refers to as “Skyrim in space” reentered the spotlight several months ago. Yet, despite the unveiling of a two-minute in-game teaser, there was still much the crew from Bethesda Game Studios couldn’t divulge about the RPG. Concrete details can’t stay tucked away for too long, however, given that one piece of information out of E3 revolved around the release date, which will fall late next year in November. Now fans eager to learn more have another interesting tidbit to chew on.

An unlisted video on Bethesda Softworks’ YouTube page provides viewers with an overview of The Settled Systems, an area housed within a “relatively small pocket of the Milky Way Galaxy” that extends 50 light-years beyond Earth’s solar system. The Bethesda-coined Settled Systems serve as the backdrop of Starfield, which takes place over 300 years from now in the year 2330. Design Director Emil Pagliarulo, who narrates the video, explains that once warring factions known as the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective now “enjoy an uneasy peace.” But threats of all kinds still roam about, something players will find out for themselves while exploring the systems as a new member of the Constellation organization.

The above paints an interesting picture about what the mysterious world of Starfield has in store for players. And since the RPG is just over a year out from release, Bethesda could begin lifting the veil with regards to gameplay and the like sometime in the relatively near future.

Of course, Starfield isn’t the only Bethesda Games Studios title that fans of the developer are eager to see in action. The even more mysterious Elder Scrolls VI similarly took center stage during E3 2018, but there exists no official word on when it will be ready to reemerge in full.

Starfield is slated to launch next year on November 11, 2022 for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
