Star Wars Would Be Making A Huge Mistake If This Popular Mandalorian Theory Is True

Star Wars Would Be Making A Huge Mistake If This Popular Mandalorian Theory Is True

The Mandalorian season 3 has perpetuated one popular theory that, if true, would be a big mistake. The Mandalorian season 3 isn’t quite as up to par with the show’s previous seasons in the eyes of Star Wars viewers, but it does a lot of leg work to set up the future of Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin, the Mandalorian people, and the galaxy in general. The Mandalorian season 3 ends with Din Djarin and Grogu finding a new home on Nevarro and Djarin helping the New Republic keep the galaxy safe, setting up The Mandalorian season 4 – and introducing many new theories for the show.

Between the reveal of the Imperial Shadow Council and Moff Gideon’s Force-sensitive clones, there’s a lot to unpack in The Mandalorian season 3. Many theories for The Mandalorian moving forward have to do with the reveal of the Mythosaur, who is alive and well dwelling in the Living Waters under Mandalore. Mandalorian lore puts taming and riding the Mythosaur in high regard, and it was speculated throughout The Mandalorian season 3 who would eventually ride the creature. Most options have come down to Din Djarin, Grogu, or Bo-Katan Kryze, who was the one who had seen the Mythosaur in person – and one particular long-running theory also focuses on one of these options in a way that could change the show’s legacy.

One Theory Suggests Grogu Is The Titular Mandalorian

One popular theory suggests Grogu is the titular character of The Mandalorian, not Din Djarin. The theory says that through Grogu’s relationship with his adoptive father, he will eventually be the next iteration of Mandalore the Great. In Mandalorian legend, Mandalore the Great was the first to hold the title of Mand’alor and was the one to tame and ride the Mythosaur. Grogu’s deep connection with the Force and his ability to connect with others through it would then make him a prime candidate to tame the Mythosaur.

The theory is sound and has a lot of merits to it, but it would be a mistake for the creators of The Mandalorian to move forward with this story. While Grogu is over 50 years old already, he still cannot speak, and therefore cannot speak the Mandalorian Creed. It would be quite a while until the foundling-turned-apprentice would be able to speak enough to say the Creed, meaning it would be a while until Grogu could rightfully take his place as the Mand’alor.

This Theory Strips Din Djarin Of His Mandalorian Identity

Star Wars Would Be Making A Huge Mistake If This Popular Mandalorian Theory Is True

Another issue with this theory is that it takes away from Din Djarin’s story. Din Djarin was not born into the Mandalorian culture, as audiences learned in The Mandalorian season 1. Instead, Djarin was taken in as a foundling during the Clone Wars after his parents were killed by battle droids. Much of The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 shows Din Djarin struggling to find his identity, in terms of what it truly means to be a Mandalorian. He spends so long trying to discover this that even when he becomes the de facto Mandalorian leader, he still feels he isn’t the right fit.

When Din Djarin bests Moff Gideon in combat and wins the Darksaber in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, he becomes the leader of the Mandalorian people, even if he doesn’t want to admit it. In fact, Din Djarin tries to give the Darksaber away as soon as he learns the significance of it. Throughout The Mandalorian season 3, however, Djarin learns to be a ruler in his own way, and it doesn’t matter whether he has the Darksaber or not. It’s amazing character growth to see a lone Mandalorian grow into someone who, at long last, feels like he truly belongs within his covert.

Grogu Has Time To Tell His Full Mandalorian Story Later On

Grogu and the Mythosaur in The Mandalorian.

Grogu being revealed as the titular Mandalorian would, in some ways, make Din Djarin’s story feel secondary, like the type of story where it all ends up being a dream. It would be wasting his amazing character growth to fulfill a prophecy Grogu likely has more than 800 years to pursue. Audiences know Grogu’s species can live for about 900 years, which leaves Star Wars plenty of time to dive into Grogu’s story. While Grogu very well may be the next Mand’alor, he shouldn’t gain that title in the midst of Din Djarin’s story in The Mandalorian, as viewers would be more than happy to see his growth continue elsewhere in the future of Star Wars.
