Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Clip Reveals Ezra’s New Look & Lightsaber

The last season of Star Wars Rebels introduced classic characters like Princess Leia, Darth Vader and even Darth Maul, bringing the storyline closer to the original trilogy and canon, while taking a few twists and turns in order to line up with the current Star Wars continuity. After The Clone Wars was abruptly cancelled, Rebels picked up fourteen years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and five years before Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

The acclaimed animated series takes place during an era when the Galactic Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy. Imperial forces are hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights while a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking form. The storyline follows crew of the Ghost (including a couple that are force-sensitives) as they fight against the Empire. Since the world-changing finale of Star Wars Rebels season 2, fans have been eagerly awaiting any details concerning season 3.

In anticipation of Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm released the first clip of Star Wars Rebels season 3 in the latest episode of The Star Wars Show! The clip (in the video above starting at the 3:40 mark), introduced by supervising director Dave Filoni, features the exciting return of old friend, Hondo Ohnaka. Ezra Bridger seems to have grown-up quite a bit since season 2, complete with new lightsaber, haircut, and much better fighting skills. Does Ezra’s adult look confirm a possible time jump? Although there is no sign of Kanan or Ahoska, the rest of the Ghost crew is looking good.

The shocking season 2 finale of Star Wars Rebels left us hanging with many burning questions. Ezra made a mistake by trusting Darth Maul and was swayed by the power of the Dark Side. An ultimate showdown occurred between Ahsoka and her prior mentor Darth Vader that includes 8 force-sensitive, lightsaber-wielding characters that mostly fell to their unfortunate deaths. Darth Vader had to survive to remain in line with the Star Wars universe, but fan-favorite Ahsoka was pushed off of a cliff leaving fans guessing if she survived. Kanan was left blinded following his fight with Darth Maul.

If you’re lucky enough to be attending Star Wars Celebration, you will be seeing a lot more from Filoni and Star Wars Rebels including the season 3 premiere and one additional episode. Most details have been under wraps since the season 2 finale, but we will soon find out the fates of Ahoska, Darth Vader and Darth Maul when Star Wars Rebels returns this Fall.

Star Wars Rebels season 3 will return to Disney XD this Fall.
