Star Wars’ Newest Jedi Master Embarks On A Bold New Mission (With a Surprising Ally)

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: The High Republic #3

The High Republic’s newest Jedi Master is about to embark on her most dangerous mission yet. In the wake of Starlight Beacon’s fall, Marchion Ro and his Nihil marauders have walled off an entire region of the Star Wars galaxy, leaving both the Republic and Jedi in complete disarray. However, Keeve Trennis has a bold plan alongside a very surprising ally.

Having reclaimed the Jedi Order’s flagship in The High Republic #3 from Cavan Scott, Jim Towe, and Marika Cresta, the Republic Defense Coalition’s Commander Jahen assumed the plan was to return The Ataraxia to Coruscant as ordered. However, that’s not what the trio of Jedi assigned to the mission had in mind.

Rather than adhering to their mandate and the Jedi Order’s emergency recall orders due to fears and concerns over the Nihil’s Nameless Force predators, Jedi Master Keeve Trennis and her allies Terec and Ceret intend to use The Ataraxia and its unique path drive to enter the Nihil’s “Occlusion Zone”. To that end, it’s all based on the hope that Keeve’s old master is still alive.

Keeve Saving Master Sskeer

As seen at the end of The High Republic comic series from the era’s first publishing phase, Jedi Master Sskeer seemingly sacrificed himself during the fall of Starlight Beacon. With the Nihil having released their Nameless Force predators onboard the satellite, several Jedi found themselves affected by the creatures and their ability to paralyze and drain their life forces until they were nothing more than calcified husks. However, Sskeer remained unaffected due to the recent loss of his connection to the Force itself.

While this bought his fellow Jedi time to escape and live, Sskeer was presumed dead by many in the Jedi Order. However, Keeve recently heard reports that Sskeer was alive in the Occlusion Zone, albeit having become a judge, jury, and executioner within Nihil space. As such, Keeve has made it her mission to find and rescue her old master, and Ceret and Terec have chosen to stick by her side.

Keeve Trennis and Lourna Dee

That being said, Jedi Master Keeve Trennis is also employing the knowledge of none other than Lourna Dee, the ex-Nihil Tempest Runner who stole The Ataraxia during Starlight’s Fall and renamed it after herself. With Trennis needing her help to navigate the Occlusion Zone, it seems as though Dee will have no choice but to help Keeve and her fellow Jedi find Sskeer, even if she has no desire to return to Nihil Space herself. To that end, future issues of Marvel’s The High Republic should no doubt prove to be quite exciting and intense.
