Styled after the iconic clone trooper from his brief appearance in Ahsoka episode 5, Clone Captain Rex’s helmet features an impressive level of detail and various elements collectors have come to expect from the replica line. However, this new wearable replica might just be one of the best Black Series helmets yet.

Although Ahsoka began streaming on Disney+ in August on 2023, the new Captain Rex helmet was officially released at the beginning of March in 2024. Priced at $131.99, the helmet carries the same average price tag as Hasbro’s previously released Black Series helmets based on various characters from the galaxy far, far away. As seen with other recent Black Series helmets from Hasbro, the box for the new Clone Captain Rex Premium Roleplay Helmet is of the same style with the unique corner-side, featuring dynamic artwork of the character to whom the helmet belongs. In this case, it’s naturally Clone Captain Rex of the 501st Legion who became a full-ranking commander during the Siege of Mandalore, the backdrop for his brief cameo within Ahsoka’s flashback to the Clone Wars. The box art also features the helmet from different angles, smaller blueprint-style depictions, as well as an overview of the helmet’s various features.

Requiring only minimal assembly, The Black Series Clone Captain Rex Premium Roleplay Helmet features an easily attachable rangefinder inserted onto the side as well as a removable back panel, allowing collectors to insert batteries for the voice changer and screen-accurate sounds when the rangefinder is pulled down. The voice changer can be activated by pressing the right side of the helmet. Although the majority of Black Series helmet replicas are marketed as one-size-fits-all, some are known to push the limit and can be fairly snug. However, the Captain Rex replica helmet is quite roomy (while also not being too loose).

The level of detail for this Black Series helmet is quite high. Rex’s signature jaig eyes and blue accents of the 501st Legion are the right size and color, albeit scuffed to convey wear and tear. This particular helmet is one of the Republic’s more unique pieces of military protection due to the personal preference of Rex himself. After all, the helmet is a welded combination of Rex’s original Phase 1 helmet and visor combined with the lower section of the later Phase II clone trooper armor. To that end, the welding itself is raised and textured just as it’s seen on-screen.

The black blaster scoring on top is also a very dynamic touch, seeing as how this helmet survived the entirety of the Clone Wars with its owner, a fact made evident by the helmet itself with the multiple tally marks featured on the side, believed to represent successful missions and campaigns Rex and the 501st carried out with General Anakin Skywalker (though some have argued it could also be brothers Rex lost under his command). Either way, every visual detail a Star Wars fan would want from a Captain Rex replica helmet is depicted quite well with very strong screen accuracy.

Naturally, the size of the Black Series Clone Captain Rex Premium Roleplay Helmet is on par with Hasbro’s previously released Phase II Clone Trooper helmet as well as the Black Series 332nd Clone Trooper Helmet. Likewise, it’s also a bit larger than The Mandalorian Premium Helmet (as seen in the gallery above). To that end, the only Black Series helmet that is currently bigger than this new Rex replica is likely the multi-piece Black Series Darth Vader Premium Helmet (though not by much).

Furthermore, Rex’s helmet can certainly be ranked as one of the best Black Series Star Wars helmets Hasbro has released yet thanks to all of its various features and a strong commitment to what was seen on-screen, both in the animated Star Wars shows and more recently in Ahsoka.
