Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order Game Announced, Takes Place Before A New Hope

Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment has finally revealed details about its upcoming Star Wars game, with the project due to the titled Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. The developer is one of many tasked with creating Star Wars games for the publisher, and although Respawn’s game was previously something of a mystery, the studio has now given a few snippets of information about the game.

Star Wars was expected to play a part in the EA Play event at this year’s E3 expo, particularly after the turbulence that EA has felt over its use of the Star Wars license of late. The closure of Visceral and the loot box controversy of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 left a sour note with many fans, and so the publisher was expected to make amends with some new announcements at its conference.

Thankfully, Respawn’s Vince Zampella was on hand to tell fans of the franchise a little about what it’s working on. It may have been a low key announcement, but nonetheless Zampella was able to give some serious details about Jedi Fallen Order. For starters, the game is going to be set in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope in the Star Wars timeline, and is set to be released holiday 2019.

Zampella was singled out during the E3 event to discuss the game, outside of the major trailer releases for the likes of Battlefield 5‘s multiplayer. Although the Respawn honcho didn’t give away much about the project, he still told the crowd that the game “takes place during the dark times when the Jedi were being hunted,” which places the game after Order 66 was given but before the events of the original trilogy.

It’s an area that has already proven to be an excellent place for Star Wars storytelling, with Star Wars Rebels particularly well respected by fans alongside a library of other stories. As such, it’s likely that Respawn’s Jedi Fallen Order could also find a very good home here, as well as no doubt tying into those impressive Star Wars tales that have already been told.

Respawn’s Titanfall games were both very well regarded by those who played them, but unfortunately the second game in the series failed to find much of a player base in spite of its excellent multiplayer gameplay and its varied and compelling single player campaign. Hopefully, the developer is able to deliver the goods with Jedi Fallen Order.
