Star Wars Is Making Franchise History With Grogu In The New Mandalorian Movie – & It Promises An Exciting Future

With the newly announced The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, the Star Wars movies are making an exciting change that marks a big shift for the franchise. Following on the heels of The Mandalorian season 3’s ending, The Mandalorian & Grogu was a surprise when it was announced; The Mandalorian season 4, which has not yet been confirmed, was expected next. The movie will nevertheless see Din Grogu, recently adopted by Din Djarin, as the Mandalorian’s new apprentice, with the two assisting the New Republic.

After Luke Skywalker’s thrilling appearance in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, it seemed that Din Djarin and Grogu were sadly going their separate ways. Grogu briefly trained under Luke, which meant potentially becoming the very first Padawan learner of Luke’s Jedi Temple on Ossus. However, in The Book of Boba Fett, Grogu left the Temple, reuniting with Din Djarin. This decision marks an exciting turn for the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie that will shape Star Wars’ future.

Grogu Is An Active Force-Wielder Without Being A Jedi (Or Sith)

Grogu uses the Force in The Book of Boba Fett.

Despite Grogu leaving the Temple, deciding to become the Mandalorian’s apprentice and not a Jedi, he remains a Force-user, which will be exciting to see further developed in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie. At the end of The Mandalorian season 3, Grogu forms a protective Force bubble around himself, Din Djarin, and Bo-Katan Kryze, saving them from a raging fire. This put his Force powers on full display, and signals that, even without the Jedi Temple or any additional Jedi training, he will continue to use the Force.

This Will Be Star Wars’ First Movie With A Force-Sensitive Lead Who Isn’t A Jedi Or Sith

While Star Wars has ample Jedi movie leads and a few non-Jedi leads who do not have the Force, Grogu will become Star Wars’ first Force-sensitive movie lead who isn’t a Jedi or a Sith. This is exciting because it means the Force can be more freely explored than it was in, for example, the prequels, when a strict Jedi code dictated its use, but it will also continue Star Wars’ recent portrayals of how the Force works and who can use it. Ahsoka laid the groundwork for this by officially making Sabine Wren a Jedi.

In reality, these updates to the Force serve to connect the Force with how George Lucas originally explained it. The Force was always meant to be something that resided in all living things, and while the Jedi were trained to use it, it never belonged only to them. This movie makes good on that definition. Grogu does not have to be a Jedi to use the Force, and although he now does have formal Jedi training both with Luke and in the Jedi Order, The Mandalorian & Grogu will explore what the Force can look like for a non-Jedi lead.
