Star Wars Is About To Introduce A “Badass” Jedi Master In Its Next TV Show

Star Wars: The Acolyte, Star Wars‘ upcoming Disney+ TV show, will make one Star Wars: The High Republic book character even more incredible in live-action, according to actress Rebecca Henderson. The Acolyte, set 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in the Star Wars timeline, will explore the High Republic Era, the golden era of the Jedi not yet shown in Star Wars movies and TV shows. Vernestra Rwoh, a Mirialan Jedi first introduced as a young but incredibly powerful Jedi in the High Republic book series, will be a full-fledged Jedi Master among The Acolyte’s characters.

Regarding Vernestra “Vern” Rwoh’s jump from the page to the small screen in The Acolyte, Vernestra actress Rebecca Henderson indicated that the character has had serious developments since The High Republic books. According to GamesRadar, Henderson explained:

“I don’t want to use the word ‘badass’, but Vernestra is such a badass. She’s a revered Jedi Master. The series is set about 100 years on from when we’ve seen Vernestra [in other High Republic media], so she’s certainly an elder, who thinks she’s seen it all.”

The enthusiasm Henderson has for the character is a particularly exciting peek into what is to come for Vernestra in The Acolyte.

Vernestra Rwoh gives audiences plenty to be excited about. For one, Vernestra Rwoh has one of the coolest lightsaber designs in Star Wars. The Jedi brandishes an incredibly unique purple lightwhip, which will be Star Wars‘ very first live-action lightwhip and one of few purple sabers. Moreover, Vernestra is a Mirialan Jedi, meaning she is not human. This is particularly exciting because, even now, so many Jedi Masters—even outside the Skywalker line—are human. Vern will now join the ranks of other Mirialan Jedi Luminara Unduli and Barriss Offee, two impressive (although complex, in the case of Barriss) Jedi.

Vernestra Rwoh is also an amazingly powerful Jedi. In fact, Vernestra became a Jedi Knight at just 15 years old, making her one of the youngest Jedi Knights in Star Wars history. That sort of raw power is exciting enough in and of itself, but Henderson’s additional comments regarding how much more capable Vern will be in The Acolyte means that a whole new level of power will be on display in the show. Especially given the context, when the Jedi are largely considered to be at their height but will begin to fall, this is a very promising update.

The Acolyte is truly a very exciting time for Star Wars. After the Skywalker Saga concluded with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the franchise has truly begun to explore new stories, ranging from non-Jedi heroes in Andor to Jedi that fall outside the Skywalker Saga’s timeline, such as those in The Acolyte. While details are still being held somewhat under wraps for Star Wars: The Acolyte, this thrilling update from Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh actress Rebecca Henderson suggests that very exciting things are coming down the line for Star Wars.
