Star Wars Has To Include Ezra In Ahsoka’s Show Now

The news that Sabine Wren will be coming to live-action in the upcoming Ahsoka series on Disney+ also means that the show must now include Star Wars Rebels’ Ezra Bridger. The young Jedi has been rumored for a Star Wars return for years, with actors like Mena Massoud and Rahul Kohli having thrown their hats into the ring as potential casting choices. While it’s yet to be confirmed, the return of Sabine now makes Ezra a necessary addition to Ahsoka as well.

Throughout the course of Star Wars Rebels, Ezra grew from a young Force-sensitive kid to a seasoned fighter, a brave leader, and a capable Jedi. He was an instrumental part of the early rebellion against the Empire, fighting in numerous campaigns against Palpatine’s regime. At the end of the show, Ezra made a noble sacrifice to save his home planet of Lothal, blasting Grand Admiral Thrawn and his fleet into the Unknown Regions with Ezra still onboard. Since then, the character has yet to appear in any major canonical Star Wars stories.

With Sabine joining the Ahsoka show, however, that could be changing. In fact, it has to. The end of Rebels revealed that, after the Empire was defeated, Ahsoka sought out Sabine for a very specific mission – finding Ezra in the Unknown Regions and bringing him home. When she appears in The Mandalorian season 2, Ahsoka doesn’t mention Ezra by name, only revealing that she’s on the hunt for Thrawn. But given that both Thrawn and Ezra were on the same ship when it launched into the far reaches of space, looking for one likely means looking for the other.

That possibility has only grown stronger with the reveal that Sabine will feature prominently in Ahsoka. It now seems likely that the upcoming show will feature Ahsoka and Sabine searching for Ezra together, likely with Thrawn as the primary antagonist. That could mean new corners of the Star Wars galaxy might be revealed, and it also means that even more Rebels characters could be brought to live-action if the story calls for it.

Of course, both Sabine and Ezra will be a bit older when they return in Ahsoka. Considering how strong and capable they were as teenagers, it should be even more exciting to see what kinds of adventures they’ll get up to as adults. Will Ahsoka become Ezra’s new Jedi Master? Will they start training other Force-sensitives in the Unknown Regions? Ahsoka has a lot of potential already, especially if Sabine and Ezra both return.
