Star Wars’ Coolest Jedi Has Arrived (Move Over Mace Windu!)

Warning! This post contains a PREVIEW for Star Wars: The High Republic – The Blade #1

An exciting preview has been released for Star Wars’ newest High Republic series, showcasing the secret past of one of the coolest Jedi Masters ever. In the first phase of Lucasfilm’s High Republic publishing initiative, Porter Engle is a simple cook for a Jedi Order outpost on the Outer Rim. However, this new miniseries will reveal his past as the Blade of Bardotta, a legendary Jedi who traveled all over the galaxy (with quite a bit of swagger).

Coming from Charles Soule and Marco Castiello, the new preview for Star Wars: The High Republic – The Blade #1 sees Porter serving as a Jedi in the far reaches of space. Helping the Republic expand out into the Outer Rim by scouting new territories, Porter and Jedi Knight Barash are seen facing a group of pirates. However, it’s clear that Porter has zero fear in this showdown, epically taking the time to show off his skills with a deck of Sabacc cards. Here are the preview pages and synopsis for the upcoming first issue:

Star Wars’ Blade of Bardotta Is Already The Galaxy’s Coolest Jedi

  • STAR WARS: THE HIGH REPUBLIC – THE BLADE #1
  • PART I
  • Hundreds of years before the Skywalker Saga, witness the rise of a legend—the mighty Jedi PORTER ENGLE, perhaps the most skilled lightsaber wielder in the High Republic. With his fellow Jedi Knight Barash, he travels the galaxy, serving as a guardian of peace and justice. But even Porter Engle has enemies he cannot defeat.

It’s incredibly exciting to see young Porter in his element. Not only are his skills impressive, but his unique cutlass-inspired lightsaber it’s undeniably cool. As such, the mystery behind his legend and why he chose to become a humble cook later on in the High Republic era will be very interesting.

Additionally, Soule is also paying off one of his earlier Star Wars series with Jedi Knight Barash. As seen in his 2017 Darth Vader series, Vader’s red lightsaber crystal came from a defeated master who had taken the Barash Vow, meaning that he was a Jedi who chose to operate with zero connection to the Jedi Order (often as a form of atonement). As such, it seems as though Jedi Knight Barash will serve as the founder and/or inspiration of that practice.

Based on this preview alone, Porter Engle is already one of the coolest High Republic Jedi to be introduced yet. Likewise, he certainly gives epic Jedi from the prequel era a run for their money as well, such as Jedi Master Mace Windu. The full Star Wars: The High Republic – The Blade #1 releases December 28th from Marvel Comics.
