Star Wars Confirms Yoda Was a Famous Badass During The High Republic

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #2.

In the latest issue of IDW’s High Republic Adventures, Grand Master Yoda proves that he was just as famous and powerful as a Jedi even 200 years before the events of the Skywalker saga. Leading a group of young Padawans during the High Republic era, Yoda is on a sabbatical from the Jedi Council in favor of teaching the younger generations of Jedi out in the field. However, the events of the Great Disaster see Yoda motivating his students to rise to the occasion as representatives of the Jedi Order to offer aid and support to those in need. Yoda himself joins the conflict in epic fashion when the Nihil emerge in this latest issue, and the marauders instantly know that they’re in trouble.

In the series’ first issue, the young Padawans are sent to the surface of Trymant IV, which has erupted into chaos due to the debris crashing down onto the planet from hyperspace due to the Great Disaster. However, the enemies of the Jedi Order, the Nihil, have arrived to the planet as well, as they’ve made some sort of deal with one of  Trymant’s elders in exchange for getting him to safety. This calls for Yoda and his fellow Jedi Master Buck to intervene.

Star Wars: High Republic Adventures #2 from writer Daniel José Older and artist Harvey Tolibao sees Jedi Masters Yoda and Buck arriving to assist their students to face of the Nihil. Not only does the extremely powerful Yoda lead the charge against the evil marauders, he also counters several of their attacks, at one point leaping in front of his Padawans in order block a blast from a powerful Nihil energy weapon with an expertly timed lightsaber strike. Unsurprisingly, Yoda’s impressive heroics are noticed and quickly recognized by the Nihil’s leader.

As soon as the Nihil’s leader notices the presence of the Jedi Grand Master, he orders his men to pull back their assault and to retreat out of the system. He knows exactly who Yoda is and what he can do, fearing that his involvement will no doubt ruin all of their plans (whatever those plans may be). However, Yoda does manage to sneak aboard their intimidating ship before the Nihil take off, learning new revelations about whatever the villains were after on Trymant IV.

Thanks to this new issue from IDW, it’s seems pretty clear that Yoda is just as formidable and famous in the past as he is 200 later in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and the rest of the Skywalker saga. It’s going to be interesting to see what Yoda and his Padawans do next, as they’ve returned to the Jedi Order’s new Starlight Beacon in the Outer Rim by the end of the issue. This is most likely to report Yoda’s findings to Starlight’s Marshal Avar Kriss, as well as to initiate the young girl they picked up on Trymant IV known as Zeen Mrala, who was revealed to be strong in the Force. Either way, Yoda and his students’ first adventure has proven to be an incredibly dynamic and entertaining one in the age of the High Republic, and there’s sure to be more to come.
