In this preview, Beilert Valance is working a quick job on Abregado-Rae, a trade world within the Core that hasn’t been featured very frequently in Star Wars though it has a basis in both current canon and Legends. Valance is given a quick run-down on the job, which comes with a new, surprising target: Han Solo. Unsurprisingly, Han is shown with Chewbacca, boasting about how fast the Millennium Falcon is, mentioning how quickly it completed the Kessel Run. Han Solo’s abilities are also shown here in a different way, with a tribute to his tactics by Valance and Dengar. Valance flies their ship through an asteroid field, past exogorths, and away from their pursuers, in a flight-worthy of Han Solo. The space slugs were first featured in Empire Strikes Back and it seems as though they make trouble for every asteroid field traveler that flies their way.

Dengar and Valance have been at odds with one another for several issues, based on their history. This preview makes it clear that Dengar isn’t the only one who backstabs the cyborg since another character makes it a point to frame him without hesitation. The only thing that seems to unite Valance with his peers is a common job or search, such as the one for Boba Fett he is engaged in with Dengar. Valance’s journey has been a rather emotional one thus far, with him seeking his master, protecting a child, and briefly reuniting with his former love. Now, Valance seems hesitant to take down his newest target, though he could very easily assassinate the rogue smuggler. This is most likely due to their history as Imperial cadets – a time when Han saved Beilert despite the Empire’s wishes. Fans can find out more about Valance and Han Solo’s encounter when Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #12 releases on May 19, 2021.
