The Star Wars franchise is celebrating 25 years of the prequel trilogy via exclusive interviews, concept art, and more for fans of a galaxy far, far away to seek their teeth into. The Star Wars prequels began in 1999 with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, the first Star Wars movie in chronological order. The subsequent releases of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith in 2002 and 2005 respectively resulted in divisive reactions, though an era of revisionism has seen the prequels looked back upon more fondly.

The Star Wars Prequels Are Getting The Love They Deserve

Star Wars Prequels

As alluded to, many elements of the Star Wars prequel trilogy were endlessly divisive upon each film’s release. From the cast to George Lucas’ direction, writing, and overreliance on CGI, many were disappointed that the Star Wars prequels seemed so overtly different from the original trilogy. That said, many also argued that the Star Wars prequels had their merits, be it the outstanding lightsaber fights, genuinely intriguing story, or the way in which Lucas expanded the Star Wars galaxy beyond what was thought possible.

These more well-received aspects of the prequels have only become more prevalent as time has gone on. Even the more criticized aspects of the Star Wars prequels have been less maligned in recent years, with many appreciating the films for what they are rather than what it was perceived they should be upon release. As evidenced by a celebration of the Star Wars prequels which many would not have accepted two decades ago, George Lucas’ second trilogy is finally receiving the love it deserves as an integral part of a galaxy far, far away.
