Star Wars Announces A New High Republic Graphic Novel

Star Wars Announces A New High Republic Graphic Novel

The High Republic era of Star Wars has finally launched, and a whole wave of new novels and comics are coming for fans of all ages to enjoy, experiencing for the first time what the galaxy was like 200 years before the Skywalker Saga. While writer Cavan Scott is already helming the new High Republic series for Marvel Comics featuring the Jedi Knight Keeve Trennis, he apparently has a few more projects on the way, including a recently announced graphic novel with art by Rachael Stott. The Monster of Temple Peak will also feature a brand new character to the Star Wars galaxy known as Ty Yorrick, who will be working among the stars as a lightsaber-wielding, force-sensitive monster hunter, though not necessarily a member of the Jedi Order.

The Monster of Temple Peak will serve as a prequel story to another upcoming adult novel from Scott entitled The High Republic: The Rising Storm. The Rising Storm will serve as a continuation of the first adult novel from Charles Soule entitled The Light of the Jedi, but this newly announced graphic novel will focus on the origins and backstory of one character in particular: Ty Yorrick.

During Lucasfilm Publishing’s livestream launch event for the High Republic, Scott revealed some pretty interesting details regarding this new project and about Yorrick herself. According to Scott, Yorrick will serve as a new character featured in both of his upcoming projects, referring to her as a “slightly murky character” and a saber-for-hire. He also goes on to describe her as a monster hunter, and that she’ll also appear in one of Daniel José Older’s High Republic projects as well. Additionally, The Monster of Temple Peak will reveal where Ty came from, and more importantly, how she views the Jedi Order. Here’s the newly released concept art of Ty Yorrick, as well as the cover art for the upcoming graphic novel from Cavan Scott and Rachael Stott:

Based upon the artwork seen above, Yorrick looks to be a member of the Tholothian species in the Star Wars galaxy, which is interesting. During the days of the the Prequel Trilogy of films, there were two notable Tholothian Jedi in service to the Republic: Jedi Masters Adi Gallia and Stass Allie of the Jedi Council. However, the teases and descriptions from Scott seem to indicate that Yorrick will be far from being a Jedi herself. While she is wielding an impressive lightsaber on the graphic novel’s cover, she also has a blaster strapped to her side. This seems to indicate that Yorrick might not exactly adhere to the teachings of the Jedi in the midst of her monster hunting. It also sounds as though she might even hold a certain distaste for the Jedi of the High Republic overall.

In any case, The Monster of Temple Peak promises to be an action-packed story, judging by the title and amazing artwork. Lucasfilm Publishing seems keen to provide as many angles, perspectives, and characters as possible into this bold new era, and the story of Ty Yorrick seems like it will be one Star Wars fans won’t want to miss when it releases later on this year.
