Anticipation for the December 2015 release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already at a fever pitch, with Padawans and Jedi Knights the world over eagerly anticipating what many fans hope will be a return to the glory days of the late ’70s and early ’80s. With plenty of promotional images readily forthcoming, the latest Star Wars entry is likely to be well attended by an audience already invested in its featured spectacles.

While there have been plenty of toys and other collectibles to reinvigorate the franchise when it returns to theaters later this year, some new information has it that theatergoers who see the new film in 3D are in for a special form of memorabilia provided by the price of admission.

In a recently struck partnership with RealD, Lucasfilm and Disney have announced that a series of special edition, character-themed 3D glasses will be distributed to movie goers who see the film in the according visually projected format. The characters whose featured aesthetic styles will be used include BB-8, Captain Phasma, Kylo Ren, and a classic Stormtrooper design.

The four pairs of glasses are expected to attract more than a few moviegoers into 3D screenings of the film, making this particular business arrangement a marketing strategy likely to win even more money for its sure-to-be impressive box office earnings. If there seemed to be little incentive to see the film in the RealD format before, there are now four pretty cool excuses to do so now.

With BB-8 already a fan favorite, and characters like Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma quickly becoming rivals to match the popularity of Darth Maul and Darth Vader alike, fans just might be more than willing to spend a few extra dollars to see the film in 3D, just to get their hands on a pair (or two, or three, or four) of these unique pieces of cinematic history.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens  well see theatrical release December 18th, 2015, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16th, 2016, Star Wars: Episode VIII on May 26th, 2017, and the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25th, 2018. Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to see theatrical release in 2019, followed by the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.
