Star Trek’s Voyager Managed 1 Incredible Feat Kirk & Picard’s Enterprise Never Did

Despite everything, Star Trek: Voyager‘s USS Voyager managed an incredible feat that Kirk & Picard’s Enterprise never did. From the start, Voyager seemed to have the odds stacked against it after being flung across the galaxy to the Delta Quadrant in the series pilot episode. When Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) destroyed the Caretaker’s array and permanently stranded her ship in the Delta Quadrant, Voyager’s crew faced the monumental task of returning to Earth on a ship that, despite its impressive features, wasn’t designed for such long-haul or deep space travel.

Throughout the series, Voyager’s crew faced their share of tough situations, especially when it came to making sure the ship kept running. They were almost constantly looking for ways to increase their power supply, and given the uncertain nature of the Delta Quadrant, faced many threats that could have gone catastrophically badly. During its journey home, Voyager had battles with some of the quadrant’s most hostile species, including the Borg, which took a serious toll on the ship. By the time the crew made it home, Voyager had taken some hard knocks, but had still managed to avoid one thing that even Star Trek‘s best ships fell victim to.

Even with all the damage it took in seven years, the USS Voyager was never fully destroyed, unlike several versions of the USS Enterprise. Although some episodes of Star Trek: Voyager saw the ship blown up or crash-landed, this always happened in an alternate timeline or reality that was erased by the actions of the crew. Voyager was certainly in the line of fire often and given the show’s premise, it wouldn’t have been surprising to see the ship blown up or destroyed some other way by the end. Despite all the odds, the prime timeline version of Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant intact.

This cannot be said for Captain James T. Kirk’s (William Shatner) USS Enterprise or Captain Jean-Luc Picard’s (Patrick Stewart) USS Enterprise-D and E. The Enterprise is the Star Trek franchise’s most recognizable and beloved ship, but multiple versions of it have been spectacularly destroyed. Kirk was forced to blow up his Enterprise in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock in order to defeat the film’s Klingon adversaries, and the Enterprise-D’s crash-landing in Star Trek: Generations caused irreparable damage to the ship. Likewise, the Enterprise-E suffered major damage during the battle with the Scimitar in Star Trek: Nemesis.

What Happened To The USS Voyager After Star Trek: Voyager Ended?

For a long time, the franchise did not reveal what happened to the USS Voyager after Voyager‘s final episode. However, recent Star Trek shows have provided some answers. Star Trek: Lower Decks‘ season 4 premiere revealed that a Federation curator and historian named Beljo Tweekle (Andy Richter) took on the task of converting Voyager into a museum after the ship was decommissioned. Tweekle installed a number of exhibits on Voyager to commemorate its service, and then the ship was taken to Earth with the help of the USS Cerritos, where it was set up in San Francisco in 2381 and opened as a museum to the public.

It is unknown how long exactly Voyager remained on Earth as a museum, but by 2401 the ship had been moved to the Fleet Museum to join other famous Starfleet ships on display. This was revealed in Star Trek: Picard season 3 when Picard and the crew of the USS Titan-A took refuge at the Fleet Museum in order to ask its curator, Commodore Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) for help. Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) got the chance to see Voyager again while at the Fleet Museum and reminisced fondly about her time aboard the ship to Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers).

Will Star Trek: Prodigy’s USS Voyager-A Survive Like The Original?

The USS Voyager-A from Prodigy and the cast of Star Trek: Voyager.

A recent sneak peek of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 revealed that around 2384, a new version of Voyager, the USS Voyager-A was commissioned, with the now-Admiral Janeway in command again. The clip from Prodigy season 2 revealed a first look at the Voyager-A, showcasing an impressively remodeled ship with a much bigger crew complement and a design that incorporated technology from the original Voyager’s time in the Delta Quadrant. Given the Voyager-A’s upgrades, it would seem unlikely that the ship could be destroyed even half as easily as the original Voyager.

However, Voyager-A’s mission in Prodigy season 2 could be dangerous. The ship is being tasked with traveling to the future in order to save Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) and his crew from their imprisonment on Solum, a hostile alien planet whose people were the main antagonists in the show’s first season. Given that it will be traveling to the future and going up against the species who made such deadly weapons as the Living Construct, the Voyager-A could be in for some nasty battles that certainly have the potential to destroy it, meaning that its counterpart from Star Trek: Voyager may, unfortunately, outlast it.
