Star Trek Reveals Sisko’s New Powers Make Him Q’s Equal

Star Trek Reveals Sisko’s New Powers Make Him Q’s Equal

Warning: contains spoilers for Star Trek #3!Captain Sisko recently returned, and a new Star Trek comic has confirmed his new powers put him on the level of the Q. A mysterious force is murdering the god-like beings of the Star Trek universe, and the Prophets send Sisko back to discover who it is. However, Sisko is now different, with abilities beyond those of normal people–and his new abilities allow him to sniff out Q.

The issue, written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, illustrated by Ramon Rosanas and Joe Eisma, colored by Lee Loughridge and lettered by Clayton Cowles, sees Q reveal himself to the crew of the USS Theseus. However, instead of flat out announcing his arrival, he toys with the crew, in true Q fashion; Q creates monsters to terrorize the crew as well as transport crew members to outrageous scenarios, such as the American West. Sisko senses something is amiss, and in a cryptic and poetic speech, reveals the culprit to be Q. Shortly before Sisko outs Q, his eyes glow yellow. Q greets Sisko, saying Sisko is “always the poet.” Sisko, needless to say, is not amused to see Q again.

In “The Emissary,” the first episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Ben Sisko learned he was to be the “Emissary” of the Bajoran Prophets, a race of non-linear, non-corporeal beings living in the Bajoran wormhole, or “the Celestial Temple,” as the Bajorans refer to it. Although Sisko was initially skeptical, he eventually came to embrace the role. In Deep Space Nine’s series finale, the Prophets took Benjamin Sisko to live with them, where he would learn more about the nature of his existence. It was the last time he was seen on screen–but now, in the comics, he has returned. A mysterious, and powerful, force is slaughtering the god-like beings of the Star Trek universe, and the Prophets, god-like themselves, send Sisko back to discover whoever is behind these brutal attacks. So far, the god-killer has claimed Gary Mitchell and the Crystalline Entities, and now the Q have made their presence known–but Sisko is ready for him.

Captain Sisko Is Now On Q’s Level

Star Trek Reveals Sisko’s New Powers Make Him Q’s Equal

For the past three years, Captain Sisko lived with the Prophets, who exist outside linear time, which gave him not only new insight into the workings of the universe, but apparently a set of powers that can put him on level with Q. While Sisko cannot access these gifts all the time, he was still able to sense Q was behind the shenanigans the USS Theseus was experiencing; furthermore, he used his powers to actually force Q to reveal himself. As seen in numerous appearances across the Star Trek franchise, the Q are immensely powerful, and not to be trifled with. Yet whatever the Prophets did to Sisko has put him in Q’s league, able to hold his own against the trickster god.

Sisko’s Powers Might Save the Galaxy

Sisko Q 2

Captain Sisko’s new powers have arrived just in time, as they will no doubt play a prominent role in discovering the identity of the god-killer, as well as defeat it. The struggle for Sisko will be accessing these powers, as they have shown to be inconsistent; furthermore, the longer he stays away from the Prophets, the less he can use them. Yet, Sisko’s new upgrade puts him on the level of Q, one of the most powerful beings in the Star Trek universe.
