Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks are both coming back with new seasons on Paramount+. Lower Decks production wasn’t affected by the WGA or SAG-AFTRA strikes and work continued on the show, which is expected to be released in its usual late summer/early fall 2024 time frame on Paramount+. Strange New Worlds season 3’s production lost several months due to the strikes, but filming will finally begin in December and is expected to last until June 2024. While a 2025 premiere is a realistic target, there is hope Strange New Worlds season 3 can be split into 2 parts so that some episodes can premiere in late 2024.
Critics Choice Awards nominations are exciting because it’s mainstream media recognition for Star Trek, and two Best Series nominations for both Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks is a real feather in the cap of the franchise, as is a nod for the acting talent of Celia Rose Gooding. Strange New Worlds has also landed on Best TV of 2023 lists in Vanity Fair and USA Today. It shows that even as Star Trek on Paramount+ has wrapped Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Discovery ends in 2024, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks are taking the franchise to new heights of recognition and popular acclaim.
