Star Trek: Prodigy Sets Nickelodeon Premiere Date

The new animated Star Trek series Star Trek: Prodigy will be debuting on Nickelodeon on Friday, July 8. Prodigy is the eleventh Star Trek television series, but the only series in the franchise that is specifically made for a younger audience. While Prodigy consists of an entirely new cast of characters, a familiar voice can be heard in Kate Mulgrew’s Captain Janeway, who regularly appears in the show as a training hologram. The show follows a group of teenagers who discover an abandoned Starfleet ship, and use it to seek out adventure – however, they don’t know anything about the ship they’ve just commandeered, and are slowly introduced to Starfleet as time goes on.

Prodigy will be making its weekly debut on Nickelodeon, with the first episode premiering on July 8 at 8:00pm (ET/PT). The first episode, entitled “Lost & Found,” will be an hour-long, and will follow the unlikely heroes as they uncover a derelict starship on the mining planet of Tars Lamora. New episodes will premiere on Nickelodeon every Friday through to August 5. After each episode’s release on Nickelodeon, viewers will also be able to watch them on Nick.com, the Nick App, and Nick On Demand. Prodigy is also available to stream on Paramount+, with new episodes being added to the service later this year.

With so many past iterations of the Star Trek franchise, each series needs something special to make it stand apart from the others. In Prodigy‘s case, it’s the only Star Trek series to date that is designed with children in mind, and the only series to use 3D animation, making it the first of its kind. With the franchise always planning something new, Star Trek: Prodigy is certainly going where no Star Trek series has gone before.
