Star Trek Prodigy Cast Guide & All Returning Voyager Characters

Star Trek Prodigy Cast Guide & All Returning Voyager Characters

While Star Trek: Prodigy is introducing an all-new cast of alien heroes and villains, a couple of major familiar faces from Star Trek: Voyager and even Star Trek: The Next Generation are reprising their roles. Created by Kevin and Dan Hageman, Star Trek: Prodigy is a joint production by CBS/Paramount and Nickelodeon. Although the show is designed to be enjoyed by Star Trek fans of all ages, Star Trek: Prodigy‘s main focus is to bring new young fans into the Star Trek movie and TV franchise.

Star Trek: Prodigy is set in the Delta Quadrant, which was explored by Star Trek: Voyager for seven seasons, and the show takes place in 2283, which places Prodigy just a couple of years after its fellow animated series, Star Trek: Lower Decks. In Star Trek: Prodigy, aliens of various races are exiled in the brutal mining colony of Tars Lamora, far from the United Federation of Planets. Tars Lamora is ruled by a dictator called the Diviner (John Noble) who seeks a derelict Starfleet ship, the USS Protostar. When a ragtag group of teenage aliens stumbles across the Protostar, they manage to launch and crew the starship, which becomes their ticket out of Tars Lamora. Of course, the young rebels have no idea how to operate a Starfleet ship but they have help in the form of a hologram of Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), the legendary commander of the USS Voyager.

Along with exciting breakneck adventure in the spirit of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movies, Star Trek: Prodigy is designed to instill the optimistic values of Star Trek in a new and younger generation of viewers. Star Trek: Prodigy also features an eclectic and endearing mix of young characters who have a lot of learning to do as they explore and find their place in the galaxy with Hologram Janeway’s help. However, Star Trek: Prodigy is also honoring the franchise’s legacy so that familiar characters will pop up throughout the series and encounter the young rebels aboard the USS Protostar. Typical of every Star Trek series, Star Trek: Prodigy has a large cast voiced by a slew of talented actors.

Kate Mulgrew As Hologram Janeway

Star Trek Prodigy Cast Guide & All Returning Voyager Characters

After headlining Star Trek: Voyager as Captain Janeway for seven seasons, as well as making a cameo in Star Trek: Nemesis, Kate Mulgrew returns to voice her iconic character. However, Hologram Janeway isn’t exactly the Janeway fans knew on Star Trek: Voyager, as she has since become a Starfleet Admiral. It remains to be seen how much of the real Janeway’s personality is included in her hologram but she enjoys coffee just as much as her flesh-and-blood counterpart. Hologram Janeway is a training avatar whose main role is to guide and teach the principles of Starfleet and the Federation to the Protostar’s young crew. Kate Mulgrew also starred in Orange Is The New Black and Mr. Mercedes.

Brett Gray As Dal

Star Trek Prodigy Dal Rok-Tahk

The purple-skinned, 17-year-old Dal is the self-appointed leader and Captain of the USS Protostar’s crew. Although his species is unknown, Dal is a bright and optimistic survivor and a bit of a maverick who flies by the seat of his pants. Despite being a prisoner on Tars Lamora, Dal even forged a precarious friendship with Gywn even though he knows she is the daughter of the Diviner. Dal’s true abilities as a leader and as a friend will be tested in Star Trek: Prodigy with the help of Janeway’s hologram. Brett Gray previously starred in the Netflix series On My Block and he appeared in Chicago P.D.

Ella Purnell As Gywn

Star Trek Prodigy Gwyn

Gwyn is the 17-year-old daughter of the Diviner who tries to do her father’s bidding but she dreams of seeing other planets and meeting other races. A Vau N’Akat with an affinity for other languages and compassion that her father lacks, Gwyn is drawn aboard the USS Protostar against her will and finds herself an unwilling accomplice of the rebels. However, when Gwyn learns of the Diviner’s true plans, she may not want to return to Tars Lamora and instead remain with her new friends as the Communications Officer of their incredibly fast and powerful Starfleet ship. Ella Purnell is a British actress who starred in Sweetbitter, Belgravia, and Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead.

Rylee Alazraqui As Rok-Tahk

Rylee Alazraqui As Rok-Tahk

The youngest of Star Trek: Prodigy’s cast, Rok-Tahk is an 8-year-old Brikar who befriends Dal and finds herself among the Protostar’s crew as Science Officer. Despite her intimidating size and rocky physique, Rok-Tahk is a sweet, innocent soul who befriends Murf and trusts Dal to do the right thing. Star Trek: Prodigy is Rylee Alazraqui’s first voiceover acting role.

Angus Imrie As Zero

Star Trek Prodigy Zero

A noncorporeal, genderless, and energy-based lifeform, Zero wears a containment suit and begins Star Trek: Prodigy being hunted by the Diviner and Drednok. This is because Zero is a Medusan, which is a species from Star Trek: The Original Series. Now the Protostar’s Navigator, Zero also has telepathic abilities and befriends Dal, whose mind he can read, for better or worse. Angus Imrie is a British actor who played Prince Edward in The Crown and starred in Fleabag and War of the Worlds.

Jason Mantzoukas As Jankom Pog

A 16-year-old Tellarite, Jankom Pog is a gruff but friendly Engineer who joins up with Dal to get his hands on the technology aboard the USS Protostar. Tellarites are a classic Star Trek TOS alien race but it’s unclear how much Jankom Pog knows about his species or how he ended up exiled in the Delta Quadrant. Jason Mantzoukas is an actor and comedian who appeared in Parks and Recreation, The Good Place, and Infinite.

Dee Bradley Baker As Murf

Star Trek Prodigy Murf

Murf is an adorable purple alien blob with a friendly demeanor. Murf speaks no known language and communicates with a series of sound effects. Brought aboard by Rok-Tahk as a mascot to keep the USS Protostar from getting boring, it remains to be seen what Murf’s story is. Dee Bradley Baker is a prolific voiceover actor who has starred in numerous video games and animated series like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

Jimmi Simpson As Drednok

Star Trek Prodigy Dreadnok

The Diviner’s fearsome enforcer, Drednok is an unknown mechanical lifeform. Dreadnok oversees the mining colony of Tars Lemora and personally oversees Gwyn in accordance with the Diviner’s wishes. Drednok’s cloak also hides his true form and deadly weaponry. Jimmi Simpson has a prolific acting career but he may be best known for starring in Westworld.

John Noble As The Diviner

Star Trek Prodigy Diviner

The main villain of Star Trek: Prodigy, the Diviner is the megalomaniacal ruler of Tars Lamora. A Vau N’Akat, the Diviner and Gwyn are the last of their Star Trek alien race. The Diviner is fiercely protective of Gwyn but he doesn’t want his daughter, who he calls “progeny,” to know his real plans for the USS Protostar. John Noble is a legendary Australian actor best known for starring in Fringe, Sleepy Hollow, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
