A new report that Star Trek 4 is “still on the tracks” to happen has drawn a wave of understandable skepticism from Star Trek fans online. 7 years after Star Trek Beyond left theaters, the long-rumored fourth Star Trek movie produced by J.J. Abrams has resulted in nothing more than false starts, a 2023 release date announced and rescinded, and big-name filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino, Noah Hawley, S.J. Clarkson, and Matt Shakman becoming attached to Star Trek 4 before walking away from the film due to creative differences. Star Trek 4 remains in development hell with no end in sight.
In an interview with Collider to promote her film Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, writer-director Lindsey Anderson Beer was asked about the state of Star Trek 4, which she was working on as a screenwriter. Check out her response below:
It is, it’s still on the tracks. I love that project, and it was another one that I had to hop off of to direct this movie, and that was a hard thing to do. But I love that everybody involved with that project.”
