Following the release of the second feature length trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ DC Comics film Suicide Squad, the moviegoing public has been ablaze with even more anticipation leading up to the release of the already much talked about new film. Directed by David Ayer (Fury), the movie will be the first DC live-action film adaptation to follow Zach Snyder’s even more imminent Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice – and if everything goes as well as the latest footage appears, then comic book movie fans could be in for a real treat.
After focusing on the far darker and more serious elements that the film’s content has to offer in the first trailer, WB has since gone in the direction of a noticeably lighter and more self-aware tone, much like Marvel Studios’ comparable franchise hit Guardians of the Galaxy. And by the look of one fan-made homage video to the latest footage from Ayer’s film, the second trailer’s slightly comical approach seems to be ringing true with people already.
As seen in the video featured above, YouTube user Reuven White recently compiled an animated version of the recently released Suicide Squad trailer using sequences of footage from several disparate DC Comics series, most notably the work of Bruce Timm and others from Batman: The Animated Series. Replete with Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” serving as the featured footage’s soundtrack, White has recast the entire Ayer feature film production to serve the tastes of those who grew up watching the same characters in animated form in the 1990s.
This animated trailer stands as further testament to the amount of positive hype that the new Warner Bros. motion picture has been receiving of late, and is exhaustively edited in order to replicate each and every shot and sequence from the actual footage to an extent that is almost eerie. By the end of the video, viewers might even wish that Ayer’s film was in actual fact an animated feature, though perhaps that kind of fan-service is better left to DC Comics devotees such as White.
Whether or not Ayer and Warner Bros. will ultimately be able to deliver on all of the good will which it has built up for itself over the course of the past six-plus months remains to be seen when the film finally sees theatrical release. Until then, viewers can pore over the footage released thus far, and supplement that with work as lovingly manufactured as this latest animated homage to the official film in question.
