Squid Game Season 2 Wishlist: 10 Things We Want To See

Squid Game Season 2 Wishlist: 10 Things We Want To See

Squid Game season 2 is on the way, and after the success of the Netflix series’ first installment, there are a few things that audiences are eager to see. Gi-hun’s victory in the brutal games left many questions unanswered and doors open, so there is a good deal that season 2 can work with. The character’s overall fate, the inner workings of the Squid Games, and the consequences of their founder’s death are all things that will hopefully be addressed, in addition to several Squid Game season 1 elements that could be taken to the next level in Squid Game season 2.

Squid Game season 1 hit Netflix in 2021 and quickly became the most talked about series on the streaming service. This means that, even though the show was structured as a one-off, it was quickly apparent that audiences were eager for the story to continue. Netflix renewed the K-Drama for a second season, and filming reportedly began in the summer of 2023 (via What’s On Netflix) and is expected to last ten months. This puts a potential release for Squid Game season 2 around the last quarter of 2024. In the meantime, fans can consider what they hope to see in this upcoming installment.

10 More Red Light Green Light (But With A Twist)

Squid Game Season 2 Wishlist: 10 Things We Want To See

The first game Gi-hun and the rest played in Squid Game season 1 was Red Light Green Light, and the moment has since become iconic. The giant Young-hee robot who called out either “green light!” or “red light!” is now something of a symbol for the series, especially with the inclusion of the little squid clip in her hair. So, while new games are a must for Squid Game season 2, it would be great to see the robot return for another round of the classic children’s game. Of course, it would need to be done with a twist to keep the series from becoming repetitive—perhaps Gi-hun’s mission for vengeance could mean the VIPs playing the game instead.

9 More Children’s Games Than In Squid Game S1

Squid Game Games

The backbone of Squid Game season 1 was the children’s games the contestants were forced to play, each with their own bloody twist. Though it would be great to see some of these referenced in season 2 (especially Red Light Green Light), the series’ next installment needs to take things up a notch if it will be just as shocking as season 1. So, new games are a must. It would be interesting to see popular children’s games from around the world, especially if the next round of Squid Game takes place in the other VIPs’ countries.

8 Squid Games Set In Other Countries

When the VIPs were introduced in season 1, one of the masked gentlemen mentioned that the “Korean games” were especially good that year. This indicates that the events are held in countries worldwide, teasing that future seasons of Squid Game could take place internationally. This could be interesting since audiences could meet contestants of various nationalities and be exposed to popular children’s games from all over the world. It could also be thrilling to see Gi-hun take his mission for vengeance outside of Korea, targeting each of the VIPs one at a time.

7 The Return of Squid Game’s Hwang Jun-ho

One of the biggest cliffhangers of Squid Game season 2 was the fate of the police officer Hwang Jun-ho. After discovering that the Front Man was his own brother, Jun-ho was shot by the unmasked In-ho and fell off a cliff. Though the series’ characters presume he is dead, a body is never shown, which traditionally indicates in the world of TV that he is still alive. Since the Front Man was racked with guilt at the end of Squid Game season 1, season 2 must include the resolution to the family drama.

6 More Information About The Squid Game VIPs

Squid Game season 1 explains that the VIPs are wealthy men from around the world who joined old man Oh Il-nam in his mission to create an event in which desperate souls would compete to the death for wealth. They are anonymous to even one another since they all wear jeweled masks when they come together to observe the final round of the games. At the end of the Netflix series’ first installment, Il-nam died, but it seems his games have continued on to benefit the other VIPs. It’s assumed that these men will be at the center of Gi-hun’s mission for revenge in Squid Game season 2, so it’s hoped that more information about these mysterious characters will be revealed.

5 Meeting More Squid Game Winners

Gi-hun and the Front Man in Squid Game season 1

The Front Man of Squid Game season 1 was revealed to be one of the previous winners of the brutal games. So, as of the end of the series’ first installment, he and Gi-hun have something in common. Aside from this pair, nothing else is known about the other previous winners of Il-nam’s Squid Game. Are they involved with the events like the Front Man, or have they shunned their winnings like Gi-hun initially did? Perhaps others out there would be interested in helping Hi-hun get his revenge, or maybe they are more likely to stand in his way.

4 Gi-Hun Working Within The Squid Games

At the end of Squid Game season 1, Gi-hun turned away from the plane that would have taken him forward in his life. The implication here is that the Squid Game winner plans to sabotage the games from the inside in hopes that no one else would go through what he and his fellow contestants did. Precisely how he will go about this is unclear. Since we saw season 1 from the players’ perspectives, it would be a powerful twist if Squid Game season 2 gave viewers a closer look at the guards. For example, it’s still unclear where the games’ employees come from. If Gi-hun became one of them, it could provide some valuable answers.

3 More Of The Squid Game Salesman

The Salesman talking to Gi-hun in Squid Game

Though he was only supposed to be a minor character, the Salesman (played by Gong Yoo) had quite a hold on audiences after Squid Game season 1. Many were curious about where the man had come from and how he had gotten involved in the games, with some theorizing that he was the mastermind behind it all. Though the show’s creator has disproved this and other theories regarding the character, there certainly seems to be room for further exploration of the Salesman character. Thankfully, he is one of the four characters confirmed to be returning for Squid Game season 2, so we are bound to learn at least a little more about him.

2 A Backstory Of The Squid Game Creator (Oh Il-Nam)

Il-nam wearing a suit and talking in Squid Game.

The terrible games’ creator, Oh Il-nam, passed away at the end of Squid Game season 1, so he is unlikely to appear in season 2. However, as the founder and a character Gi-hun had grown close to (before discovering his true identity), there may be more left to learn about the old man. Squid Game‘s Player 001 explained a few details about his past, but it’s difficult to discern which was true and which was simply a part of the old-man character he had created for the games. If Gi-hun aims to take the Squid Game down from the inside, he may uncover even more about his old “friend.”

1 A Happy Ending For Gi-Hun In Squid Game

Seong Gi Hun talking to the old man in Squid Game

Gi-hun was awfully close to getting his happy ending at the end of Squid Game season 1. Though the Netflix series initially made him look despicable, it’s slowly revealed that he was a victim of circumstance and truly had a heart of gold beneath it all. After months of not using his winnings, Gi-hun finally decided to move forward and use his wealth to be with his daughter in the United States. At the last minute, he walked away from his plane, choosing to seek vengeance instead. It’s hard to imagine that such a path will allow Gi-hun a happy ending, but that’s only something Squid Game season 2 will be able to reveal.
