Splatoon 3 Trailer’s Secret QR Code Has Fans Baffled

A QR code discovered in a Splatoon 3 gameplay trailer, recently revealed during February’s Nintendo Direct, continues to captivate fans. The latest entry in Nintendo’s beloved third-person shooter series will see players once again take on the role of Inklings and wield their ink-based weaponry. The brand-new Splatoon 3 gameplay trailer shows off exciting new features, but a hidden secret is perhaps the most interesting inclusion.

Like its predecessors, Splatoon 3 will see players face off in a variety of different game modes as Inklings and Octolings. The Turf War mode sees two teams attempt to cover the map with their respective ink color, with ink also slowing enemy movement and dealing damage over time. A cooperative mode titled Salmon Run, where players work together to fight off waves of Salmonoids and collect Power Eggs, will also return from previous entries. Splatoon 3’s version of the mode, Salmon Run Next Wave, will see the Inklings dropping into the map via helicopter. The new features in Splatoon 3 promise to make it even more intense than past games, though a firm release date has not yet been given by Nintendo.

While gamers quickly discovered a QR code hidden within the new Splatoon 3 gameplay trailer, Eurogamer reports that fans are still struggling to scan it. The square code is visible 55 seconds into the trailer, cleverly hidden within the score at the top left of the screen, but it is far too pixelated for a scanner to actually read. One fan on Reddit claimed to scan the code, revealing a firm Splatoon 3 release date of August 18, 2022, but this was quickly proven to be a hoax. As of now, Splatoon fans are still unable to properly decipher the code.

Splatoon 3 Trailer’s Secret QR Code Has Fans Baffled

Despite the game still lacking an official release date, a Splatoon 3 gameplay trailer starring the Mammalians released in September revealed more about the upcoming shooter’s bizarre world and improved mechanics. Rather than the Inklings or Octolings, the trailer put the spotlight on the strange furry Mammalians that will apparently play a large role in the sequel’s story. Alongside these bizarre creatures, the trailer also gave gamers a glimpse at some fascinating new features like a large crab-like tank and a character who can grapple around using stretchy limbs.

While Splatoon 3 is confirmed to launch in summer 2022, fans believe that the gameplay trailer may contain a more accurate release date. The low quality of the QR code makes it impossible to scan, unfortunately, but it’s possible that gamers will be able to enhance or reconstruct the code soon. As the battle between Inklings and Octolings rages on, gamers are engaged in their own battle against a low-quality QR code.

Splatoon 3 will be available in summer 2022 on Nintendo Switch.
