Spider-Man: The Lost Hunt Reveals Kraven the Hunter’s Secret Origins

Warning! This post contains a PREVIEW for Spider-Man: The Lost Hunt #1

Marvel Comics’ new Spider-Man miniseries will feature the untold history of Kraven the Hunter. Looking back to the past when Peter Parker and Mary Jane were living in Portland instead of New York, Spider-Man: The Lost Hunt will reveal a never-before-seen encounter with Kraven at a time when Peter didn’t have his traditional spider powers. Likewise, the new preview for the upcoming series teases the uncovering of some big secrets behind Kraven’s rise as a supervillain.

During the Clone Saga and the belief that Ben Reilly was the real Spider-Man, Peter Parker and a pregnant Mary Jane (still Spider-Man’s wife before One More Day) moved to Portland. Likewise, Peter agreed to retire as Spider-Man while working for the lab that just so happened to be responsible for the spider that gave Peter his powers as a teen. However, a disaster involving Peter’s blood and the creation of monstrous spider-beings resulted in the retired hero putting his suit back on to make things right while giving up his powers in the process.

While Peter would eventually get his powers back near the end of the Spider-Man Clone Saga, it looks as though the new Spider-Man: The Lost Hunt miniseries from J.M DeMatteis and Eder Messias will be taking place shortly after the loss of his abilities seen in Spider-Man: The Final Adventure. As revealed by the new preview for the first issue, Kraven is resurrected while Spider-Man is struggling with the loss of his powers. Here are the preview pages and synopsis for the upcoming issue:

As it stands, the identity of this mystery man connected to Kraven is unknown, though it could possibly be the man who trained him or even Sergei Kravinoff’s half-brother The Chameleon. At any rate, it will be exciting to see what secrets will be revealed regarding Kraven the Hunter’s past. Very little is known about his origins compared to other villains in the Spider-Man mythos.
