Spider-Man: Miles Morales Looks Even Better With Batman: Arkham Camera

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Looks Even Better With Batman: Arkham Camera

A mod has reworked Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales‘ camera to resemble the one used in Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham series, with impressive results. The follow-up to Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man released on PC on November 18 after two years as a PlayStation console exclusive, and the modding community has been eagerly experimenting with the game.

A mod from Maxie Zeus (which has been added to Nexus Mods by Wayne004, via WCCF Tech) has repositioned the camera in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales to bring players closer to the action, and it looks a lot like the Batman: Arkham series. As seen in footage uploaded by NTD Modder, the “Over The Shoulder Camera” mod sets the in-game camera in a position similar to the one in the Batman: Arkham games and brings in the field of view. A similar over-the-shoulder angle was used in Beenox’s movie tie-ins for The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, which saw mixed reception from players.

Maxie Zeus’ Closer Camera Angle Compliments Miles Morales’ Story

Thanks to the closer camera mod, players can now feel more immersed in Miles’ neighborhood and community, something which played a huge part in Miles’ story. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales‘ story is smaller in scale than Marvel’s Spider-Man, which showcases a more experienced, older Peter Parker who is already established as a superhero across the entire city. However, Miles has only recently been learning how to become Spider-Man, and must both protect and earn the respect of his community while learning to stand on his own as a hero, which highlights the differences between Miles and Peter Parker.

Insomniac’s default wider angle camera works at showing off the scale of Insomniac’s iteration of Manhattan, and works well for Peter Parker, who knows every part of the city intimately after five years of superheroics. The Batman: Arkham-like closer camera feels more fitting and compliments Miles’ narrative better.

By the end of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Miles has learned to stand on his own two feet and fully steps into the role of Spider-Man. Therefore, while the Batman: Arkham-esque closer camera mod is a nice feature, Insomniac’s default camera would work for both Spider-Men if the rumors of both Peter and Miles being playable in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are true. The announcement trailer revealed both heroes working together to take out a group of enemies, hinting at a more experienced Miles Morales in the sequel. However, a new camera perspective doesn’t seem likely for the next game – at least until modders get their hands on it.
