Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 Has Some Big Surprises

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 Has Some Big Surprises

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 will have some surprises, producer Chris Miller teases. Released in 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is deemed as one of the best superhero films ever. It centered on Miles Morales’ (Shameik Moore) version of the web-slinging hero as he met other versions of the wall-crawler from other dimension. Given its critical and commercial success, it was no surprise that a sequel was green-lit, which is currently set for a 2022 rollout.

Thanks to its interesting characters coupled with great visual effects, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse quickly became one of people’s favorite Spider-Man movies. Aside from Miles, it also introduced a string of other iterations of the heroes like Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), Spider-Ham (John Mulaney), Spider-Noir (Nicolas Cage), Peter Parker (Jake Johnson), and Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn). Coming from varying dimensions, they all united to stop Kingpin (Liev Schreiber) from destroying reality. In the end, they succeeded as each returned to their designated universes but with a sequel on the way, many are looking forward to seeing the whole gang getting back together.

Partaking in a watch part for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Lord was asked about what he can reveal about the sequel. While he obviously couldn’t say anything that would spoil the film, he shared that they were just working on the follow-up film a couple of days ago and they’re all having a great time. He added that watching the original film made him much more excited for what they have in story for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2. Check out his full tweet below:

Not much is known regarding the story details for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2, but previous reports reveal that it will focus on Miles and Gwen Stacy’s budding romance. This is obviously exciting for a lot of fans especially after seeing the pair’s chemistry in the original movie. Aside from that, it’s  also worth noting that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse‘s post-credit scene also gave viewers an idea for what to expect in the sequel. In the stinger, the public is introduced to Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) who just returned to Nueva Nueva York following his own mission. Here, the public discovers that he has the ability to monitor the multiverse thanks to the non-harmful version of the tech Alchemex used in Miles’ time, hence why he knew about Kingpin’s attempt to destroy reality and the Spider-People successfully returning to their worlds. It’s also the reason why he had the ability to travel through the alternate realities landing him to the 1960s Spider-Man cartoon world. It’s safe to say that Miguel O’Hara will play a role in the sequel especially with the gizmo in his possession.

Aside from the previously introduced Spider-People, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 could also see the proper debut of Japanese Spider-Man who had a cameo in the original movie. Miller’s co-producer Phil Lord teased this possibility back in November further hyping up fans of the particular version of the friendly neighborhood hero. Finally, Sony pushing for an appearance by the live-action versions of the hero played Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield will definitely surprise viewers in the best way. It’s no secret that the filmmakers attempted this in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but the studio deemed it too soon, afraid that it would confuse the public. However, now that the multiverse is established, they won’t have this problem for the sequel.
