Spider-Man Gets Nightmarish Venom Form in Spine-Chilling Cosplay (Arachnophobes Beware!)

For anyone with a severe spider phobia akin to Ron Weasley’s, this nightmarish Venom-infused Spider-Man cosplay is certainly not recommended. However, those daring enough to confront some arachnoid-themed horrors will undoubtedly marvel at the artistic prowess of this cosplayer. Furthermore, the timing of this cosplay couldn’t be more perfect, coinciding with the looming anniversary of Spider-Man’s black costume.

Photographer and digital artist Wens Universe has ingeniously merged cosplay and digital artistry, creating the ultimate mash-up with a highly creative interpretation of what appears to be Spider-Man’s iconic 1984 black costume from the original Secret Wars event.

Devotees of this costume are well aware that there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to this suit, as this distinctive attire was later revealed as the Venom symbiote. While Wens’ cosplay deviates slightly from the original suit with a different chest symbol, the unmistakable Spider-Man and Venom connections make it impossible not to associate this creation with the 1984 suit.

Spider-Man Cosplay is a Mashup of Superior Venom and Spider-Man’s 1984 Black Costume

In addition to the black suit, what truly solidifies the Venom association in this Spider-Man cosplay are the spider-like appendages sprouting from his back. These appendages perfectly align with Venom’s shape-shifting abilities, which are often depicted with a similar likeness. Notably, Wens’ cosplay bears a striking resemblance to Superior Venom, a more aggressive and vicious iteration of the character introduced in Superior Spider-Man (2013) #24 by Dan Slott, Christos Gage, and Humberto Ramos. This particular version of Venom prominently featured spider-like appendages, mirroring those seen in Wens’ rendition of Spider-Man.

Whether this cosplay draws from Spider-Man’s 1984 black costume, the Superior Venom, a fusion of both, or perhaps even none of the above remains to be clarified. Regardless of the specific source, one thing remains certain: this creation is an extraordinary display of skill, seamlessly blending cosplay and digital editing to produce something both chilling and spectacular. In the image, Spider-Man hangs suspended, supported by spider-like appendages, while the background is a mess of chaotic webbing, suggesting that this dark iteration of Spider-Man may be fashioning a hunting ground for himself.

From a wordplay perspective, this cosplay stands out as incredibly unique, as it authentically transforms Spider-Man into the arachnid that he is named after. Beyond Peter Parker’s chest logo, web-slinging abilities, and wall-crawling prowess, there isn’t much that inherently evokes spiders. However, with Wens’ addition of spider appendages, there’s no denying that Parker now fully embodies the spider moniker, even if these eerie appendages are actually manifestations of Venom himself. This Venom-infused Spider-Man portrayal is sure to linger in fans’ minds for months to come, owing to its sheer epicness.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man is the name given to several individuals who have employed a spider-moniker throughout Marvel Comics. Typically gaining their powers through a bite from a radioactive spider, the different Spider-Man heroes employ super-strength, agility, and intellect while utilizing webbing to swing and tangle up their foes. The most notable of these Spider-Men is Peter Parker, who remains one of the most popular superheroes throughout the world.
